I'm totally new to this so please bear with me. I'm using virtual dj at the moment by using the internal mixer but want to upgrage and buy a mixer and be able to use headphones to preview my mixes. Can anybody reccomend a set up for me. I have a fairly limited budget(£250) and all help is greatly appreciated. HHHHHHEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP! please?

I would recommend that you buy a Hercules RMX. This is a controller made for Virtual DJ. It allows you to control both virtual decks and it has a built in mixer and sound card for you to connect to a PA or stereo system.

The added benefit is that it comes with a free, legal version of Virtual DJ LE. This will allow you to register here as a legit limited edition user of VDJ and then you can get a very nice discount on the full version of the software when you are ready.

The RMX is a great all-in-one controller that is used by noobs and pros alike.

Any ideas on the hecules dj cosole made for virtual dj? It is substantially cheaper and was wondering why? I'm only ever gonna be playin house parties etc. Would this suffice? Would i need an external sound card? The ability to use cans is a must as i hate fudgin a mix even by a millisecond. i'll try and post a link so here goes. http://www.thomann.de/gb/hercules_dj_console_virtual_dj.htm

your theory is correct you would need an external soundcard.but the rmx is built with a decent soundcard and has more features ie 6x6 effects buttons which all can be mapped to whatever effect you desire.i havent looked back since buying my rmx over a year ago and use nothing else.and im not an rmx agent lol....but at the end of the day the choice will be yours.look on ebay and other sites for cheaper rmxs ect.and also hercules work with virtuadj so updates on drivers ect are free like vdj software

Edit: I'm not 100% sure on the DJ Console features.

The Mk2 does have a soundcard built-in. The Hercules DJ Control (which is cheaper) does not. They have the same physical layout and controls but slightly different features.

Hercules DJ Control (no soundcard, no headphones) £69 at Pixmania
Hercules DJ Console Mk1 (I'm not sure, I think it has a soundcard and headphones)
Hercules DJ Console Mk2 (has soundcard, supports headphones) £139 at Pixmania

If you ever want to use decks with the software or do not have 4.1 or more outputs on your pc soundcard and wish to use an external mixer then the Mk2 with its souncard is the better option. Better still is the Rmx but then it does cost double.

ok didnt look at previous post properly lol.once there is a built in sound card your good to go.but as i said rmx has more features ect.just make sure whatever you choose you really want rather than having to buy again in a bit.once you get what you want download drivers check out hardware forum for settings and tips ect and enjoy.and welcome to the vdj family mate

My advice is not to waste your money on them. Go with the RMX and VDJ PRO.

Hi mate like the others are telling you the rmx is probaly the best choice.

I have owned alot of the midi controllers inc numark total control, dmc2, hercules dj control, hercules console mk 2 and the behringer bcd2000.

I myself out of the above found the total control the best for my needs (but i did go on friends rmx and must admit i was impressed by it).

The hercules dj control and mk2 in my opinion are just toys and look like toys. The behringer bcd2000/bcd3000 was not to bad but the mic input is not supported by virtual dj.

The dmc2 was also one of my favs but this is rackmount so prabaly not what you are looking for.

If you are looking for table top controller and have £250 to spend then i would def choose the rmx or maybe the numark omni control as both these have built in sound cards.

I myself have moved on to the whole timcoded vinyl setup now (except my karaoke setup which i use a dmc2) but i still always find myself buying these new midi controllers when they come out just to try them and see what they i like

The rmx soundcard is fine, as is its' mapping and control from VDJ. But, you should be aware of one of the RMX's shortcomings: the mic input is totally inadequate and there are no controls on the mic at all (apart from volume, which just doesn't cut it).

Also, don't expect all buttons to be backlit or the type of responsiveness on its jogs that you get from touch-sensitive ones. I'n not suggesting you get these features from the other models you're looking at, but some people miss these features when they finally get their hands on an rmx and realise they should have been looking at something a little more up-market (and more expensive!).

But, I agree with the previous responses regarding the options you're looking at, the rmx is probably the best bet in the options listed!

(Hmmm....one of these days I'm going to pull all the pieces of paper [research !!] together I've got with notes regarding various mixers and create a matrix of mixers, showing their features and options. Should make for interesting reading!)
