Hi all,

A small question about the BPM editor. I want to set multiple bpm anchors in a song. So basically I get this :

But, how do I tell my anchor is a new first beat for the upcoming section ? cause right now it is considered as a 'second' beat, according to the grid. Didn't find how to set the new first beat, tried the 'tap' button but it didn't help.

At the moment you can't.
As a workaround, just add a couple extra beat markers a couple of milliseconds before the new BPM starts so that the first beat is correct.

The work around works but don't try and use any samples that follow the grid because things can go to the toilet real fast.......

Why not? Has it always been like this?

I've only ever tried adding new anchors to variable BPM tracks on one or two ocassions, because it's so tedious to do manually - but I don't remember being unable to set beat one.

Care to elaborate?

The sample will stay on beat but wont pick back up on the one so if my sample has a break it will start at the wrong spot thus making the mix sound weird.

I can record a video if needed and I brought this up when 8 first came out while I was editing some transition tracks.

Samples are indeed only auto-synced to a single beat, not to a measure.

I'm not entirely sure what kind of looped sample it makes sense for to have looping over a part of the song that actually also makes a jump in the beat pattern, and then just have the sample skip some beats as well.

So is it planed in the 8.2 roadmap ? Or later than that ?

A drifting track maybe..... Either way it jumps and messes up the mix which doesn't sound good.

Ill just upload a video.

At least if we don't get a way to set it ourselves, a new anchor should always be considered as a new first beat. imho.

Absolute agree to you.
+1 from me.

The few times I used the BPM editor I thought it was me doing something wrong.

So +1 for the first beat anchor.

I disagree - it you were using anchors to map out tempo fluctuations you may not want every anchor to be beat 1. Otherwise you could end up with a whole song where every beat is beat 1.

Thats doubtful, lmao!! But yes I see your point.

Maybe its time to make it "smarter"?

That's pretty much why there was a first part in my sentence :

But it would be better if it could be set, OFC !
