Cases of electrical storms breaking out directly above erupting volcanoes are well documented, although scientists differ on what causes them. Picture taken May 2, 2008.

| Mensajes Tue 13 May 08 @ 6:26 pm Yes, it is an amazing photo, the smoke cross over the Andes mountains, from Pacific side to atlantic...but the situation there is not a joke, all the people from Chaiten City was evacuated because experts estimated that this big smoke colum, could collpase down, generating a stream of dust at about 400 degrees celsius that run at aprox 100 Km per hour, If that occurs, it will devast and burn all the wonderfull flora and fauna there, nothing will survive in a 10 Km radius. Im in Chile but fortunatelly Im at 800 km North from Chaiten. |
