Hi. Martin here!
Probably like most DJ's, I've been into music all my life. I was more into bands though than DJ'ing, having played in various local bands , whose taste in music varied from Rock to Country. We used to do the whole pub/party/wedding scene, which was great craic! Drums are my thing and still get a buzz out of having a session on the kit from time to time.
I got into DJ'ing recently, by accident! While in one of my local bars around Christmas time and chatting to the landlord, I asked what music they had lined-up for New Years Eve (big party time!!). When I heard they hadn't anyone booked and had left it too late to book anyone, I offered to set them up with music for the night, rather than be stuck. Afterall, I had all the gear from my drum-playing time (minus Rmx & VDJ, of course) and had most of my music already on my laptop.
My plan was to set the music going and mix 'n' mingle for the night. On the night before, I discovered they wanted a"DJ", interacting with the crowd, etc. etc. "Oh Shit", this is not what I had planned. A bit nervy that night to begin with to tell the truth. Talk bout being thrown in at the deep end!?
As things happened, it was a great night. The next day, the landlord and his wife wanted my diary so they could book me for every bank holiday weekend, right through to the following New Year's Eve, (as they put it "before anyone else got in before them"!). I thought they were pulling the piss, seriously.
Well, the pub gigs, parties and weddings have been popping into my diary since, and the most important thing is, I 'm having great fun doing it :-). Funny how things turn out!
