analyse should store the info in the mp3 itself

NO... I don't want any program writing anything to the mp3 files that it took me 2 years to encode...

Ok so you have 20000 tracks. You load them up in Virtual DJ and analyze them. It takes you three days to do this. The next week you reload your computer, and all of your work is gone. You have to re-analyze all 20000 tracks all over again?

it would be nice if it was able to read the tags of "other" DJ programs so that new users do not have to rescan all of their tracks

bpm studio and pcdj both store the bpm count somewhere in the header of the mp3. Most tag editors dont even touch this and the sound is not affected.

As you may have noticed, VirtualDJ learns a lot more about each song than just the BPM.
It has to know the position of each beat in order for the beatlock to work, the level informations along the song, the global volume, the cues, the mix points for the various automix styles, etc...
So even if we read the BPM stored by another DJing software, we would need to rescan the whole song anyway the first time vdj loads it.
And there is too much infos to be stored into the ID3 tag. Plus we want people to still be able to work with mp3 CDs, or mp3 across the network, both case where you can't write in the mp3 file.

Believe me, the no#1 reason, i'm thinking for changing
from pcdj to Virtual DJ is that this program ''respect''
my mp3 files which are stored at mp3 cd's (for backup),
organized in a huge database, and i collect them from ...1996
Every change to the original mp3 tag (especially v2)
will result the change of the size for each mp3 file.
So my database will not recognize these files anymore.
I'm so tired about this.
Pcdj red, not only writes in tag 2, but ''reset'' my Tag v1
infos, changing the original files.
It took me years to understand how wrong it is.
If you have a big collection you soon become a...desktop
officer, than a real Dj.
I'm so happy that VDJ needs only the filename to work.
I only wish that i have the option to read selected fields of the tags like YEAR info,
,and one or two more fields in the
Virtual DJ internal database, free form, for example to judge
the songs. (The comment field is not enough)

Please keep things simple.

Ok then, can you do what BPM Studio does. Create SCN files for each track so that when you move the files between systems the INFO IS TRANSFERRED.

Can you please add compatibilty to read PCDJ/BPM BPMS? I can send you one as an example?

Is this the file that stores the BPMs?

"virtualDJ Internal Database"

If I back this file up will all the Analysing be retained?

ok! there you go; that solves the problem. I started analysing my 22000 tracks. The file size was about 37K

Let it run all night, it is now at 6.46MB
