oh? i thought he'd built it himself..

That's great having a custom built system, but, what I'm looking for is to buy an "off the shelf" touchscreen computer that can work with little modification to VDJ, maybe just the skin. Even with a 23" touchscreen a standard skin re-sized may be good enough. If not, I may have to design my own or modify someone else's.

Also, many of these touchscreens that I have seen have video input, but, do not have any form of video output. I've been researching on the 'net and found some bits of kit that will give a second screen output from USB 2.0, however, I haven't found any with Windows 7 drivers. I'm sure they will become available in the near future, but, this is cutting edge stuff, so, might have to wait a while.

If for any reason it doesn't work out I'd still have a very nice computer for my main house computer for working with graphics & video (only had laptops for the last 2 years).

This is the computer I'm currently interested in buying;

Acer Aspire Z5610 Desktop, Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz, 1TB HDD, 4GB RAM, 23" TFT, DVD±RW, ATI 4570, Windows 7 Home Premium

Sorry but I did not notice that you was in the UK. I guess I need to be more carefull.

Hey, no problem. Easy to miss the flag. :-)

That MSI looks ideal, and, yes, it does have VGA input AND output. Having a hard time finding a supplier here in the UK, will keep looking.

MSI WIND TOP was on ebay few months ago and now it is SOLD-OUT . There is a supplier in AUSTRIA with shipping only 25 euro I think.

Check MSI site , they even announced a 3d model all-in-one.

You just have to wait.

i read yesterday about a new MSI, the Wind Top AE2020

Ive read the specs on a few different websites, around half state it has both VGA and HDMI outputs, although a few state that they are inputs.

Im going to look into it a bit more, if it definatly has HDMI out, i'll be ordering one asap.

Ermm.......... yes I will be doing video editing with Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects etc., etc., blah, blah, blah.

So, if I'm gonna lay some money out, may as well get something powerful enough to not need replacing for a few years. That's why I've been looking at the Acer with Quadcore processor and 1 terrabyte hard drive.

I currently have;

Atari STE with monochrome monitor and 100mb hard drive.......... Wow!!! Bought in 1990 (still works, I think)
Pentium 60 Mhz desktop.... MS-DOS eh???? (deceased)
Pentium 233 Mhz desktop.... Windows 95 (deceased)
Pentium 950 Mhz desktop... Windows 98 - first computer used for DJing (deceased, killed by lightning strike sending spike up the mains, ouch!!)
Tiny Computers 2500 Ghz laptop.... XP - second laptop used for DJing in 2003 (sold first one) (deceased)
Dell Inspiron 1.6 Ghz laptop.... XP - my previous DJ laptop I'm typing this on, relegated to main home & internet computer
HP G70 laptop.... was Vista now W7 - current gig laptop for the past year.

Previosly owned computers sold;

BBC Micro 'B' 32k.......... my first computer bought in 1981 & had for several years, used a cassette recorder for storage lol :-)
Apricot F10....... MS-DOS - 10Mb hard drive!!! Yeh that IS Megabytes... Wow!!! :-)
IBM type laptop - MS-DOS (sort of, can't remember the manufacturer, was huge luggable)
Tiny Computers laptop 1Ghz... XP - first laptop used for DJing in 2002

Think I should open a museum lol

didnt know argos had them.

the V2 machine appears to be the same one i found in computer active magazine. Doesnt state on the argos site that the HDMI is an output though.

wont be parting with cash till i know for sure.

From what I've read the HDMI is input only.

Still fancy the Acer as in my first post on this thread for all the extras, quad processor, terrabyte hard drive, ATI graphics card, etc. Will need to find USB to VGA converter with W7 drivers for video tho.

This tread is pretty interesting - I was considering revisiting using a touchscreen again and i have a few (8 inch like djdab has, 15" elo and a 17")
About 12 years ago I used the 17" touchkit on a 17"LCD with megaseq running on a Mac PowerPC. It was awesome and had a wow factor like you wouldn't believe! But no multitouch and it would be sluggish with videos playing. The again there was nothing in the way of control surfaces for djing and most weren't even considering mp3s. flash forward 10 years and it's nearly there...

I am almost finished my 1U computer for vdj I intend on using my DN-HC4500 for control and VNC on my Macbook for display and searching (it's also a back up along with an ipod and cortex HDC-1000) I was also looking into using one of my touchscreens with a USB to VGA adapter technologies today give me more options and that's a good thing.
Having done it already I will admit there is the wow factor but to be honest. Matching good hardware controller with a good skin and touchscreen to fill in the extra's is the way to go!
I like that I can touch to select effects, transitions, video effects or sampler and then twist some knobs. Just my 2 cents

Question? Whats the NVIDIA GeForce ION graphics like for video? Anybody?

I have the ION on my miniATX Atom dual-core board - its a GeForce 9300M i believe and mine's set to use 512mb shared memory - It will do full video transitions and video effects no problem! Mine supports VGA, DVI and HDMI with extended desktop. As a bonus it will handle Bluray playback as well. If your interested search "Small Form ITX build " started by DJ Marcel. He's been a big help to me
