Just like there are crap songs, there are crap mashups.
And just like there also great songs, there are some awesome mashups.

One should rather blame the DJS that pick crap mashups at gigs, rather than the mashups scene in general.
Else one is missing the target by miles... Its the DJ that plays bad songs or mashups that is crap, not the mashup scene as a phenomena. Ignoring the mashup scene will make you a bad dj, and picking bad mash-ups same.

Using great mashups will make you stand out as a DJ, and make you original and creative.
As a Club DJ, the reaction I have had of mixing an original Lady Gaga tune, with a mashup of that tune is phenomenal, making the floor estatic, and pumping

As a DJ you simply have to pick the good ones.. There are several mashups that made bigger hits than the original songs.
That the dancefloor will want to hear... such as Mylo vs Miami Sound Machine - Dr Pressure.
And some of the good mashups are already MASSIVE hits.
For example these current radio hit at club channels through Europe.

Rihanna Vs UB 40 - Rude Boy Vs Kingston Town

Lady Gaga vs. Bob Marley - Could You Be Love Game

Lady Gaga vs. Depeche Mode - "Just Can't Get Enough Paparazzi"

I have to agree with Jason on this one. I am see way to many club DJ's playing mashup's vs. creating there own on the fly. You watch the DJ use his Cell phone when you hear mixing going on......Come on the club might as well get a video joke box (pun intended). Tired of seeing/hearing everyone playing the same mixes. This is why the respected DJ's dont share their remixes/mashups.

Sorry for being a bit offtopic but I must say I have never heard so well produced mashups as djs from mars do (links abow posted by norway)! Especially videos are exceptionally well combined & produced. Where I can buy those videos???

I especially find the mashups that they can really well spice up your gig. Not playing them all night but just 2-3 during the night, preferably first play original song and then mix in the mashup, just as norway said.
