My problem is, although I have Ableton Live 8 (lite) installed, Virtual DJ doesn't give it as an option to use as a Line In.

No, actually its pretty easy. Just follow the manual
Open VDJ
in advanced cofig select a linein channel using rewire as a source.
create a shortcut = deck X linein 1
activate the shortcut
open Ableton

im in the mappers tab in the "Keyboard"
and i don't know how to write the code for the key i assigned (SHIFT+UP), below in the action tab i dont know what to type in order to activate a line in for my deck
i would like to assign deck C for line in but i have no idea how it works
