Hey guys im Brian Clark and iv'e had a Youtube channel for a about two months, and i have just started recording my first few mixes(Their not great) but im working on them, in most of my videos i ask multiple questions concerning the Numark Mixtrack Pro, and Just DJing some are about what kind of music i want to dj and others about setting up my controllers. If anyone that is experienced or just starting out like me, could some of you go to my channel and watch some of the videos and answer my questions.

Hey there Brian,

Saw your last video, where you are 'mixing' up some very different kind of tunes. Eventually that will only work truly if you obey the musical structure of the songs, not just throwing the cross fader up and down while both are playing sort of in sync.

If you wanna make some quick progress, start learning those basics that will help you to very quickly recognize the structure of the songs and obey some very basic rules like harmony.

The tutorials found in http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/6288/Mix_lessons/DJ_MIXING___basic_-_advanced_-_pro.html are pretty good and could get you on your way. As a program I would suggest..

Start out with learning all about patterns and structure as described in 'BASIC BEAT MIXING','BASIC BEATMIXING CONTINUED' and 'BETTER BEAT MIXING' and 'BETTER BEAT MIXING'. Great music to learn on because of the rigid structure, very little melody and medium tempo would be minimal house or minimal techno. Example http://i.mixcloud.com/C4vl8

The moment you are able to play two songs in sync in such a way that their drops and intro's match (meaning you are in pattern) and you are able to introduce them, keep them minutes together, use your mid, high and low, and exit a song neatly, without it sounding unnatural you are ready for your next phase.

Then start reading about harmonic mixing. http://www.harmonic-mixing.com/HowTo.aspx Learn which records you can and which records you shouldn't be mixing together. Take a more melodic genre, for example deep house and practice producing long harmonic mixes. Example http://i.mixcloud.com/CBB6NM

If you are able to do that.... than get to the club house / popular genre and apply all that knowledge there.. and only than start thinking of effects and all sorts of tricks! Club example: http://i.mixcloud.com/CuPRL Popular club example: http://i.mixcloud.com/CjotM

And most important tip, listen to what others do, get yourself on mixcloud or on soundcloud and start listening how other people do it. Recognize the mediocre, good and great. And post your mixes there, you might get slightly more harsh comments or few listeners, but thats the way to learn.

Good luck!
