Does speaker cable have to be a specific thickness/gauge for better sound when connecting to powered speaker 15 feet away from controller? What would be better?

You don't use/need speaker cable if you're using a powered speaker!
The input to a powered speaker is line level, so you need screened audio cable. What's your controller? Does it have balanced XLR outputs?

My controller is Mixtrack pro and has 1/4 " output. I was told to use thicker gauge audio cable from controller to powered speaker for better sound.
I will check out this "screen audio cable" any brand is preferred and does length matters?

Apparently it does....

Roughly
Resistance (which will equate to how much of the signal gets to the speaker) = length * 1/c.s.a (cross sectional area )
Longer the run or lower the csa and less signal voltage will arrive at the speaker.
whilst in theory thicker = better, the law of diminishing returns kicks in rather quicker than a cable salesman will let on.

Are you sure? From what I can see via images online, the Mixtrack Pro series (mk1, 2 and 3) have RCA outputs.
If you're going 15ft using unbalanced cable (which RCA is) then thicker cable would be preferable. Be aware though that a thicker outside diameter doesn't necessarily guarantee a thicker core.

@groovindj thank you
my bad it is RCA output and not 1/4"

I have the same thing with my WeGo controller, so here's what I do;
rca out with a short cable into a small mixing desk that has balanced xlr outs, I have one from yamaha but there's lots of cheaper ones out there.
the advantage is that you can send the signal 20m with no problems, and the mixer boosts the signal power to your speakers!
it's one more piece of kit to set up and carry, but it's worth it
hope it helps
