I just noticed that VDJ8 scans multiple songs at the same time.
Is that a new feature, or have I just missed it?
Is it based of number of CPU kernels on the laptop?

Yes and yes.
It was introduced a couple of builds ago.
But will only work with a true quad-core CPU.
A double core with hyperthreading (2 virtual cores) isn't able to use this feature.

Maybe it's a Mac thing, because it works on my PC. If you were playing a track, it will only do one at a time.

My studio machine an XPS 8700 i7 Quad Core scanned 700 files in a little bit less than 7 minutes (4 at a time). Love it.
