My computer sez there is an upgrade available (8.2) it then displays message "failed to upgrade.
Its done this several times.

This has happened to me a few times but lately the upgrades have installed correctly first time. What I used to do was close VDJ and open the task manager. Then I would close any processes that said virtualdj (there was usually 2 of them) and then re-open VDJ 8. It should then prompt you about the update and install successfully.
