database.xml why is it needed?

in general, which files are the most important to make copies of?

database.xml holds all the infos about your tracks, including hotcues, bpm analysis, playcount e.t.c.

If you want to backup your VirtualDJ installation, then better use the built-in backup function.

Because you said you will call my manager to complain and now I'm mad at you! :P

Joking aside, in order to help you further I need to also contact tests and come up with ideas as to what may be wrong on your case that makes your other issue appear. That process cannot be done in seconds, or even hours. Some times it can take days or even weeks until the "aha" moment that either we are able to recreate a bug, or think of something that may lead us to discover the reason of your issue.
So, in order to not highjack further this thread, take a look at the other one for some more stuff.
