When a loop is playing is there any way to tighten the loop by moving the jog wheel forward and backwards?

There is.
On some controllers (mainly Pioneer ones) this function is built in.
Otherwise you need to toggle the jogwheel between "loop adjust" and "normal" mode.
Use this on a custom button to get an idea: wheel_mode 'loop_in, jog' +1
