How many files do you have at your MUSIC directory?
Do you have many subdirectories, and sub-subdirectories, and so...?

It could be caused by a lack of memory. I had the same problem a time ago. I had a laptop with 256MB memory. I selected a couple of thousand songs and started to analyse these songs. After 45 minites or so vdj closed without a message. After upgrading to 1G I never got this problem again.
How much internal memory has your pc got?

There was also a bug with WMA support before v3.3
Check if you have any WMA files in your music directory, and check what version of VDJ you're running.
