the thread would like like to hear the strengths and weaknesses of both sides.
what CAN'T be done with storing info in either styles that VDJ chooses to do it in the xml, but other programs choose to do it in the file?
which side are you on?

xml strength: song is updated on the other deck without having to reload the song to the player. very important.
"in the file" strength: you can move the file anywhere and ur guaranteed the info is still there. u can share the file on another computer, and the info will still be there. very important if one is working with external hard drive.

Hi
After trying some other softwares I definitel don't want to have a program add data to the song file. I spent weeks ripping and editing tags and I don't want that work spoilt. It can get very odd with files not working well with other programs, then might need to remove all the extra tags.
Mixmeister isn't too bad because it creates separate files for each track, but adds to disc space needed - but at least can be deleted easily if wanted.
I found big problems with pcdj over tag information causing instability with the program. I finally gave up on pcdj after having big problems on three different computers even though I had invested in a DAC-3 and the expensive software. Thank goodness for Ebay.
I definietely think VDJ has this right because it is easy to copy the database files to another folder. It might help though if you could set a preference where it could be stored, then it would be possible to put it on an external drive to move between home PC and mobile set up. This would avoid copying and pasting the files.
Gotta go, cos just about to start. Just got my laptop working on wireless, so I can even slip Napster tracks into my night. Good stuff, hey!!!

1. ive never had problems with pcdj tag info. never. i dont know about you on that one.
there'r other reasons to switch from pcdj to whatever software but i dont find your reason legal.
2. i dont know where the future of storing file info is headed. i think its nice to add album covers, lyrics and all sorts of things to a file but that changes the file size and like you said that messes up the file and a lot of work done.
in both cases, song info stored in the xml or in the file when stuff is added in the file (and the file changes) you lose all your info.
xml weakness: when file is renamed you lose your info.
in the file weakness: sharing the file with someone can copy your stuff and benefit off your hard work. (a pcdj red user would tend to be unwilling to share files coz of all the work he'd done on it. a vdj user wouldnt.)
