I LOVE DELL SO MUCH!!!! APPLE & APPLE FANBOYS SUX!
Dell is a major influence on computing today. Their products are top-notch, cutting edge technology. Just look at their glowing reviews, everyone loves them. Do you hear of Dell owners being not satisfied? Hardly ever! Apple however has lots of users that aren't happy with their products. Used Dell products command top dollar, unlike Apple products that people can hardly give away. I'm rather surprised that Apple has passed Dell in revenues given how Dell continually releases innovative product after innovative product. Just look at the Dell DJ Ditty for example. Compare that to the pathetic iPod. Who wouldn't rather have the Dell?!?!? I wouldn't want to be seen in public with those white headphones...everyone would make fun of me.

Apple Surpasses Dell's Market Value
http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/01/14/0032228
"Nine years after Michael Dell said he'd shut down Apple and give the money to the shareholders, Apple has passed Dell in market value, at $72,132,428,843 compared to Dell's $71,970,702,760. Analysts expect Apple to continue to outperform competitors, citing 2006 as 'poised to be the year of both iPod growth and, more importantly, Mac market share gains,' with earnings growing more than 35%.

"Dell is the company that doesn't "get it". Dell management has said the future of computing is commiditization, yet every successful PC maker (and other segments as well) have proven that specilization is the name of the game.
Let's look at it this way.
1. Which company has missed profit targets because they are selling too many cheap machines for too little? DELL
2. Which company is well known for their outsourcing support to India? DELL
3. Which company is trying really hard to make it's computers look more "Apple like"? DELL
Dell is beginning to realize that moving downmarket to gain share has cost it enormous credibility with hard core power users. The recent expansion of the Dell XPS line is a perfect example. Dell states there is no future in high-end computing then tries to release a high-level desktop that is very similar to the lower end with a different case and some higher end cards.
In contrast, Apple releases pleasing designs, laptops that are thin with metal cases, a MP3 player that they cannot produce enough of, and Dell is resigned to throwing in cheap DJ Ditty's with thier computer as an incentive to purchase.
All of this is coming from a current owner of three Dell computers that have been extremely reliable and a remarkable value. Make no mistake about it, I know the difference between cheap commodity product and a high-end desktop. If I were in the market for a high-end machine, it would either be an Alienware (gaming) or Mac (for everything else).

So what does this all mean? People want reliable computers [non bug-ridden, insecure, unreliable, bloated, antiquated code based] that last for longer [Macs average 4-6 years] than a windows computers' average of 2 years... 3 if you pray to the right god and have enough windows protection, maintenace, and recovery software.
People want Macs, but tolerate pc's, But that tolerance runs out.

I can start a pro-Mac thread if I want to. Especially with VDJ 4 for Mac coming out soon.
Actually I've been asked to do so, so that I don't hijack other people's threads.
Did you not think that a thread entitled "Apple Macintosh vs. windows and/or windows computer manufacturers" was gonna be pro Mac?!
What was the point of you clicking on a thread with that title if it doesn't interest you, and then posting your useless post?
The only "nobody" that nobody cares about on this thread, is you.

I think its a good idea to keep the mac vs pc in this thread .... ;) And maybe this thread only:)
Easier to find for those who are interested... and have all the info at one place...
There will be more and more people interested.. .thats for sure. With mac version of VDJ comming..
So if we could have one thread with info, it would be usefull... Maybe we should recruit a Windows fan, so the thread have some spokeperson in FAVOR of pc's too :) hehe

Threats prompt Mac switch advice
Security threats to PCs with Microsoft Windows have increased so much that computer users should consider using a Mac, says a leading security firm.
Sophos security said that the 10 most commonly found pieces of malicious software all targeted Windows machines.
In contrast, it said, none of the "malware" were capable of infecting the Mac OS X operating system.

I still find this page (www.xvsxp.com) very objective and interesting on the subject.
I'm sure you might disagree on some .. but its a very good and formal comparison of the Mac OS vs the Microsoft OS.
http://www.xvsxp.com/sitemap.php
Here at XvsXP, we attempt to answer that exact question through truth and objectivity — things that are all too often lacking in discussions of this nature. We compare Mac OS X and Windows XP on over 100 different topics, including searching, burning CDs and DVDs, playing digital media, installing applications, and more
It gives a good comparison of every aspect at the mac vs pc, all from the installing of the OS, to the use of the OS, compared by 1/10 til 10/10 for each aspect.
Its a very nutral and very informative comparison
TOTAL SCORE (out of 920 points)
Mac OSX : 643
WindowsXP Pro : 642
WindowsXP Home : 616
(that score is adjusted for free updates and applications from the manufactor of the OS - and the fair total compare of all that the OS can offer)
So, in the respect of the values they have compared , both OS's are its pretty much the same;)
What is NOT counted for is CRASH .. and stability. But thats a different story ;) hehe

Top Ten Reasons for Upgrading to a PC instead of a Mac:
1. You enjoy reading computer manuals
2. Buying parts 'not included' is your idea of being patriotic
3. Blaming it on the PC is a great excuse... for anything
4. Tech support is your idea of telephone dating
5. Your favorite computer game is figuring out where your files are
6. You look forward to today's new virus (or worm, or both)
7. You like listening to telephone support hold-button music
8. Letting the kids play on the Mac next door frees your time (eliminates after-school kid sitters)
9. You think Bill Gates deserves the money
10. You have nothing better to do with all the extra time
Just kidding!!!

That's cool. =)
I have both OS's too. I use winXP pro on my MacBook using Apple's Boot Camp. I only need windows until VDJ 4 for Mac comes out.
I will probably want to keep windows on my Mac for occasional gaming, but only until Sony's PS3 comes out though.
Then I'm windows free... the way it should be!
I don't want people to get me wrong. I know that some pc manufacturers [like Alienware] use better hardware than Apple's stock hardware, and that there are definately a lot more upgradeablility options wih pc towers, but that will all change when the new Mac Pro towers [PowerMac replacements] are introduced in a month at the latest, at Apple's WWDC the week of August 7th:
http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/index.html?homepage
That's also where the world will see how much Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" [if they keep that name] will kick microsoft vista's a$$!!! As a matter of fact, 10.4 Tiger already does kick vista's a$$, so we don't have much to woory about when it comes to microsoft's "wannabe" Mac OS X, vista.
Those will be professional level "workstations" though, with professional level workstation pricing, probably the same as the current PowerMac pricing [3 G5 models @ $2000/Dual, $2500/Dual, and $3300/Quad]. Of course these will probably use Intel's new Core 2 "Woodcrest" server class chips that were introduced almost 2 weeks ago.
MY PERSONAL SPECULATION:
The "nail in the coffin" for windows pc hardware manufacturers will be Apple's BRAND NEW consumer level and consumer priced [probably 1 or 2 models between $1000 -$1500] Mac towers ["Mac Pro mini?", or maybe just "Mac" since it won't be considered "Pro" level... that would use the same naming convention as MacBook and MacBook Pro].
We'll see in a month, if not sooner.

Get an Xbox360 (oh wait, it's Microsoft) hmm... You don't want the sony hype machine after sony's bull, what really makes me laugh isn't the 1/4 of a billion taxes which sony failed to dodge by branding the playstation a home computer.. but the ps3 tilt pad where vibration wasn't possible, yeah right. I guess it's a good thing that immersion have developed new technology which will let sony do both should they wish to pay a larger fee, better than getting sued again.
I'll probably get a PS3 for it's bluray capabilities, but the HDMI model is too expensive, I'll wait till 2010 when HDMI is required to watch bluray, should be a good price by then. I gave away both by PS1 and PS2 and so far the PSP hasn't done much to impress me; although with the PSP it's more the load times than lack of quality handheld games :-(

Yup, me too. Why would anyone want to pay nearly $1000 for a Blu-Ray player when PS3 will be one also?! Plus you get a gaming console if you want one, for less!!!
Andrew87 wrote :

HDMI products are expensive because of the licensing. Expect UDI to replace HDMI's video capabilities and bring pricing down:
http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/what_does_the_udi_hdmi_connection_mean_for_future_macs/
"Apple is working with Intel on UDI (unified display interface)...
A new display standard is needed if low-cost computers with simple graphics technology are going to be able to send content to high-definition TVs and displays. Which means UDI offers some interesting potential for future “media center” Macs, whether we’re talking repositioned Mac minis, the iMac or Apple-products-yet-to-be-unveiled. UDI—expected to emerge in the second quarter of the year—promises to bring the features and functionality of HDMI to mainstream computers. Offering compatibility with both HDMI and DVI, a UDI computer would work with HDMI TVs or DVI digital displays."

The 360 is actually very good, it hasn't reached it's potential yet (usually takes three years anyhow), but it's been the best launch in terms of quality since any console I can remember, the main reason I like it is Xbox Live and there are some killer titles coming out later this year, Gears of War, Forza 2 etc. I had the PS2 online service and it was dreadful.
Sony said that the PS3 would have dual HDMI capabilities, but it doesn't, infact, one model doesn't even have HDMI at all and from 2010 (or it may be 2008) HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be HDMI only, and I doubt the PS3 will output most games at 1080p so the lower model isn't worth getting -£500 for the top model is very pricey, especially if the linux capabilities of the PS3 are as bad as the kit which came with the PS2.
You have to feel the only reason sony are bundling blu-ray is because they like the revenues from proprietary formats, which have all failed so far. Betamax, Atrac3, UMD etc. It's no real benefit for us (especially the PS3 without HDMI as games are likely to be using standard DVD9).
