This is just in the Duh category.
I was having problems with VDJ 4 locking up when using video. I always noticed that the CPU indicator was maxed out when this happened.
So, I was looking for ways to increase performance. I got WinPatrol and worked through it but still had performance problems. I played with the performance setting in cvonfig and still had problems.
Then I looked at my Bios. Sure enough, Hyper Threading was turned off. DUH! I turned it on and now my computer coasts through videos. I bumped the performance all the way up in config and man is it wonderful.
No problems here. I just wanted to share.

thanx for that feedback, might be usefull for others having same issues

Ive just gone from a Non HT CPU, to a HT enabled CPU and also noticed a MAJOR difference in performance. Haven't maxed the CPU out since, and when the interface did freze, the audio, AND the fullscreen video kept playing smoothly to the end of the song!

Of course HT will improve the results with VirtualDJ as VirtualDJ is a multithreaded Program so very well adapted to Dual Core processor and Intel HT technology (emulation of a DualCore)

I'm not having any problems, but it may be helpful to show others how to make that change. What do you have to do to check to see if your hyperthreading is enabled?
Mensajes Thu 14 Sep 06 @ 3:41 pm
System BIOS, but only on PC's that actually HAVE HyperThreading.
Mensajes Thu 14 Sep 06 @ 3:46 pm
"Hyper-Threading" (HT) is only on Intel processors
Mensajes Thu 14 Sep 06 @ 4:43 pm
It it only dual core processors that allow hyperthreading then?
Mensajes Thu 14 Sep 06 @ 4:53 pm
No, Hyperthreading and 2 cors are different, with hyper threading u get a virtual second core with only 1 proc, the virtual core does not perform as well as a real dual core

Only some Intel Chip Processors have HT tehcnology.
More info:

How to know if I got a HT processor on my PC: http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-021710.htm
All DualCore processors got 2 core processors on a single chip, and processors with HT are only one core on a single chip emulating 2 processors (to use resources on the processors that are unused by some threads).
Only Pentium D Extreme Edition and Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition have 2 Cores and Hyphertreading on the same chip. It looks actually under windows as a 4 processor chip.
To identify your processor specs you could use: http://support.intel.com/support/processors/tools/piu/
Some information videos in here: http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archive/releases/20050418comp.htm (just double-click on the left "Video/Audio" URL in this last webpage.)
Good Luck!
