Tema: the best way to encode mp3's on earth!! 100% perfect copy of cd (read inside)

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

ok, since there seems to be a general worry about mp3 quality, and what settings to use etc... here is a guide, and software to use, all for free!!! :)

here is the best way (tested by many dj's and music lovers):

"..It creates MP3s based on the LAME Alt Preset Standard switch which was developed by a group of audiophiles. It was designed to create MP3s that sound exactly like the CD original, even to audio freaks using equipment that cost more than your car..."

this guide is made for everyone, with presets, that will make the best ever mp3's! ;)
"...Using this configuration will ensure that your rips are 100% perfect, and you are using the highest quality MP3 switches with the LAME encoder..."

the guide is here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm

i have used this way to encode all my mp3's - and they are all PERFECT!!! ;)

good luck u all, and hope u find this guide usefull :)

I'm trying it right now... although I don't like the idea of "vbr"...

Variable Bit Rate (VBR) is a good thing!! It allows the encoder to use fewer bits for unimportant sections (like complete silence) and more bits for complex portions using many frequencies. This makes for a better sound quality given the same filesize.

The only disadvantage I see with it is that it messes up some crappy mp3 players, but that's a problem with the mp3 player, not the encoder.

if you want to fine-tune the settings, here is a good guide to use the same program :

"the best way to rip and encode mp3s"

also a good guide for the same setup here:
http://users.pandora.be/satcp/cd2mp3-en.htm
"..Using an advanced reading techique called secure mode, EAC is able to make quality guarantees other software can't.."

"...world's best CD audio ripper..." (according to many many hardcore mp3 users) that are used in these guides:

alternatively, if u dont wanna use EAC, try CDex :
http://www.cdex.n3.net/ (free, great mp3 encoder)
much the same as EAC

I use cdex, while I find it easier to use.

I use Plextools to rip the song from cd to wav. This is a tool included with my cd player from Plextor (from all the test the best player to rip audio, no jitter at all)
Then I convert the wavs to mp3 with cdex.
The only thing to keep in mind is that you switch off "On the fly encoding" if you like to use the "Normalisation" function. I do a normalisation always to 98%, which works ok for me
Ewout

true... ripping to wave, and then encoding to mp3's can solve some problems... for example at a slower pc :)

I tested this yesterday evening. A mix that I encoded from WAV to 192 kbps takes 96 Mb. With this new program, and the special settings it takes 91 Mb.

It does take alot more time to encode. First to wave, then to MP3. But that is only a smaller downside.

I will encode some CD's and try to mix with them in Virtual DJ. Seeing/hearing differences, then I will post them here.
