i would go only for 320's, i find it really noticeable the difference betweekn them and 256 and if you mix em together can be quite tricky mixing up the levels with the 256 sounding much flatter.

k guys, so let me get all this straight, right now im thinking about a set up with 1 powered 650watts speakers on each corner of the dance floor, creating surround sound?..also i will have 6 bass units, 3 on each side of the dance floor under the speakers (how many watts do u recomment)...the dance floor is 3000sq. ft lets say...

also i hear that the quality of the music is always important, since i have very limited access to 320kb, what i was going to do at the gig, was to use most of the songs in 192 and then mix with 320s as well, but now you guys are saying it is better to have all the songs in only 1 type of bitrate, should i make everything into 192?..

also powered speakers are what im using, should i maybe go with amplifier and speakers and if so is this better?...just 2 more questions for this write up guys i promise..lol..

i have to ask you about how i would connect all these speakers and more than enough bass units, into my HERCULES?..obviously not but how do i go about connecting lets say, 4 speakers and 4-6 bass units? from the hercules unit out....and the gain issue, is it going to cause a problem if all the tracks are encoded with 192?...

and how will i really solve the problem of gain if the only outs are coming fromt eh hercules unit, and not into exerterna mixer since convsole edition does not allow for external mixtuer use as i was told earlier....i dont get the too technical terms sorry guys...im only hassling you because i hve never been to a more patient and helpful forum on the WHOLE OF THE INTERNET..big hugs..lolol....and thanks for the hypnotizin session...maybe if all goes well the money is just a matter of time..lol

try them as they are first :)

try an external line mixer , to ballance the ouput to the speakers

dont have one , prehaps you should aquire one

cheap here www.themusicking.co.uk

hook up like this
instead of speakers use the line mixer which then you hook to the speakers

Eq is for controling High , medium and low frequency bands , you adjust them until the sound is perfect for the current song or input

crossovers , are
areas in an integrated circuit where a conductor crosses over the top of another conductor or conductive region with the two conductors Insulated from each other

aslo some times used to talk about fading across tracks

there are modes you can choose on the mk2 control pannel

Hi,

Ive got a few questions regarding ripping tracks from CD\'s into mp3 format. I currently rip tracks using iTunes with the AAC Encoder at high quality 128kbps. However the ripped tracks are of AAC and not mp3 file types. Ive noticed that most of these AAC files of 128kbps sound much lounder and more crisp than the mp3 files Ive downloaded and purchased online which maybe 196kbps - 320kbps.

Would this be due to the fact that AAC files are of better quality than mp3? if so is the AIFF file type even better quality? Is there a converter which I can use to convert mp3\'s to AAC files?

Is it reccomended that I increase the setting from 128kbps to maybe 256/320kbps when ripping tracks in the future using the AAC encoder in i Tunes?? I own VDJ but yet to use it live at my weekly gig at a bar, but when I do start what file types would be the best and will there be a singnificant difference between tracks that are 128kbps and those that are 196kbps or more in terms of getting a really crisp high quality sound.

Thanks and any advice is much appreciated.

One thing you said about putting speakers in all 4 corners.....

keep your subs on paralell planes... don't point sub at sub, or angle them in towards each other... the subs are omnidirectional, and will do nicely on one side...

also, watch out when stacking speakers, espescially subs.....

two subs on top of each other cleate a planar effect, and basically will send bass towards the ceiling and floor in a narrow pattern, as opposed to subs side by side which will have a short, but wide dispersion..

your regular speakers should not have any problems firing towards each other across the dance floor..

Does anyone know of any good freeware utility that will scan all the files on my system and tell me what files are ripped below a specified kbit. I am planning on ripping most of what I need to use commercially again at a higher quality than what I originally ripped them but with over 20000 tracks I would like a way to identify the ones I need to fix quickly. Cheers.

Hi,

When recording & saving a DJ mix on VDJ, does changing from a 192kbps MP3 to WAV singnificantly increase the sound of the mix during playback or does choosing WAV just mean that its saved on WAV format??

Basically I play MP3's so if I choose to save th mix as a WAV file, does it mean the qulaity will be increased?

Any other suggestions to increase the sound quality while recording a mix, without using any external hardware

Thanks.

wav is uncompressed so better quality ;)

Once sound has been compressed it is irreversible, i.e saving an MP3 to a WAV wont increase the sound quality of the file, in fact the re-sampling will further diminish the sound quality, although the extent of which shouldn't be noticeable, however, if you repeat this process several times you'll end up with an awful sounding file regardless of the format and bite rate.

www.allofmp3.com is illegal. Not the best recommendation ;)

As is www.gomusic.ru. I don't normally say this, but if you use those sites, you may as well download them from p2p networks, or torrent sites. Just because you have paid for the track doesn't mean you legally own the right to play it, or own it for that matter. You're money is only funding some dirty russians, so what's the point?

AAC files use a different technique, and it's believe that you can get smaller file sizes without an audible difference by using lower bitrates in AAC format.

AIFF is the mac equivalent to a WAV file, and it uncompressed audio (i.e. full CD quality). You can't really get any higher than this at the moment (well very few tracks are released at a higher quality) but of course the file sizes are much bigger.

Some countries are legal to buy music from legal sources. Sorry but allofmp3 is legal business. is legal in his country just like Caiman Islands Banks are legal banks in their country too.

So if in my country is ok to buy from a legal enterprise in their country, and I can buy from Russia, then I have legal transaction with them, no breaked rules for me, but maybe not good for Uk or other countries that are trying to pressure to modify a forigner law. Also if you have an specific law that forbides buying such files from Russia, or that specifies that is illegal to buy there, well then you have to follow your laws.

Well, we have to look the end of this story.

In the sound quality config... my vote is for 192 VBR compression. Not a big file, and a very good quality, close to WAV file in many cases.

ACC also put some filter and tones that are not in the original sources, so it sounds different that the source, some time you can say "better" but this files with enhaced stereo filter on or other things, are not my favorite. I like to use my EQ to move that sounds and put them as I want, not to use it with headphones and a iPod, I use an Amp and big Speaker too, so It's better for me use mp3 or wav than acc.

Hi,

I just want to get some opinions on this matter. I havnet started playing out using VDJ yet, as Im waiting till I get my system upgraded. However I do use VDJ at home to make my own edits of tracks etc. I use stuff like Acid PRO and a few other sequences, but preffer VDJ for most re-editing as its much quicker and easier. What I mainly do is Layering loops over tracks and abit of effects, but more so playing around with loops and samples.

I usually record these edits as WAV files. Is there a significant difference if I choose to record at 320kbps as I burn the tracks to Audio CD later on anyway as WAV's ??

I also own Traktor 3, but havent really used it much as Im happy with VDJ. Will doing these Re-edits in Traktor 3 or sequencers like Sonar or Acid give me better sound quality or does it really matter?

If im not mistaken I read somewhere on this forum that further recordings will result in diminishing the quality of the file even more.

So Id be greatful for any suggestions about what to do and any alternatives.

Thanks!
