Hey,
I have been playing with VDJ Pro 4.2r1 and have a couple of questions, mainly from the dev team.
First off, id just like to mention that I am using an illegal version of VDJ 4.2r1. Not because I am a loser who downloads illegal software because of dodgyness, so to speak, but because I want to ensure I can get my setup working with it 100% before i blow the money on buying Pro. I ahve been stung one to many times by software co's claing this does that and we do this etc etc just to find that it doesnt.
Anyways, moving on.
I have been trying to get a work around in regards to the jog/scratch wheel on the BCD2000. One way of doing it was using Bomes MIDI translator.
Now, alow of people are setting this up to send MIDI commands to VDJ. BUT I have managed to try it by having Bome send key presses to VDJ.
How does this work?
BCD2000 goes into BOME M/ Translator. M translator sends a keypress to VDJ instead of a midi command.
In midi translator, Deck 1 Jogwheel clockwise receives the MIDI command as something like BO 12 40. Jogwheel anticlosewise is seen as BO 12 41. These figures are not spot on as Im not in front of my computer right now but its within the ball park.
Once midi translator receives this, it then sends a keyboard input to VDJ.
In this case, I setup my keyboard controls in VDJ. Lets say Nudge, value +128 = keyboard key ">". Nudge, value -128 = keyboard key "<".
Naturally if i turn the jogwheel on the BCD anticlockwise, this is the same as going going reverse or "<" and turning clockwise is the same as going forward or ">" on the keyboard.
NOW, the problem i run in to is VDJ picking up these key presses. If i was to place the cursor/mouse pointer in to the song database search field and then move the jogwheel on the bcd in a diretion the respect keyboard key will show up in ths search field.
In saying this turning the jogwheel clockwise would show ">" in the search field of VDJ and vice versa.
but, unfrotunately when I move the mouse pointer out of the search field in VDJ database, it seems not to pickup the keypresses.
my question is, what would be causing this? VDJ works fine if i hit ">" on the actual keyboard but it is not picking it up when i use the translator. All VDJ understands is the command from midi translator when the songs database seach field is selected?
Another work around I was thinking of is being able to have both MIDI and BCD2000 activated at hte same time. Naturally, this is not allowed at the moment.
There are a lot of functions on the BCD that are not being used by native support, but can be used if MIDI is activated at the same time as BCD.
Naturally, using an illegal copy of 4.2r, it doesnt allow the BCD mapper. My question is. does the mapper allow FULL customization of the BCD, as if I had programmed it via the MIDI option in VDJ?
Finally, i respect all developers work, so please dont think I am one of those full blown hardcore illegal software users, because I am not. As soon as I can get VDJ doing what I want (Id hate to have to go back to traktor after using VDJ) you will be sure to see a serial next to my name.
Cheers,
Steve.

No it does NOT. The Buttons are already assigned by the Mapper and you will not be able to assign them on you own.
Sky have you ever touched a BCD or tried to configure it for VDJ on even one PC?!?

Sorry Sky, but bcd mapper does not provide a full customisation as Steve is requesting.
As of today, BCD mapper V2 provides:
3 settings available: Scratch Sensitivity; Seek Senssitivity and Bend Sensitivity.
3 modes on/off: cue, synch and browse
3 limiters: Gain limiter, Master 50% divider and Video only cross fades.
Otherwise the mapper is not customisable. But devlopment improves it and customization is part of a future release.
To conclude, the mapper is fully functionnal. With it with adequate skin, you have not to touch the mouse or keyboard: folder, play list or db track list screening and file selection and loading, effect and samples selection and lauching is possible from the BCD.
Hope to see you with us soon, too.

So all in all the mapper really isnt a mapper as such, it just turns the BCD into a DAC3 etc etc.
Although this is fantastic, it still has the situation where features on the MP3 are unusable, ie the top 4 control knobs - please correct me if im wrong?
Basically, my goal is to stay right away from the native support and keep with the custom MIDI programming - why, because the BCD is then fully customable, which in turn, is what I believe most BCD/VDJ users want.
I have been in contact with Bome who can hopefully provide a bit more of an insight into the keypress/stroke situation. Once this jogwheel issue is sorted, I believe VDJ will have a stack more interest in their product.
As for coming on board, the credit card is just begging to be used but unfortunately I have to keep the leash on until I can get it to work the way I want it, and the way it should - ie a standard MIDI platform.
If I work out anything more inregards to keypress and midi etc etc, ill be sure to post a fix at right away.
Cheers,
Steve.

Ick, replace the word MP3 with BCD haha. To early!

Seems as if we might have something around the corner that will make the jogwheel operational under complete custom control of the user - although a third party fix, im sure it will help in many ways. This is from Bome

Hi Wesky,
I don't know what the problem is, but I can guess that VDJ is yet another program that uses DirectInput or other "direct" ways of accessing the keyboard. Those programs cannot receive the emulated keystrokes from Midi Translator.
A driver for MT is in development that installs a real keyboard driver for MT, thus programs shouldn't be able to notice any difference then for keystrokes coming from MT.
Let us know if something else is found or suggested in the VDJ forums.
Regards,
Florian
-----------------
Direct input seems to be the one behind it all so with a bit of luck, the driver will fix this issue so with midi translator and defined keyboard keys in VDJ, the BCD will be able to do almost anything you can do with a keyboard, ie nudge, scratch, jogwheel etc etc :)
br,
Steve.

Which is the best controller for VDJ pro? I'm getting y version soon :-) and looking for a mixer MIDI enabled obviously, that I can connect my turntables to and scratch. I was going to buy the Hercules MK2, but I've just seen the Behringer. Any pros or cons over the Behringer? I can see someone is having problems with its software interfacing
Cheers

Hi Jamie,
There is plenty to read about controllers etc etc.
Take a bit of time to read the topics in each forum and you will see.
Controllers are a personal preference really. Maybe head on down to a music store and have a play.
Cheers,
Steve.

My advice, get rid of the bcd, especially if your using a lap top, the hercules works with no issues and is roughly if not a bit cheaper on ebay.
Ive tried the bcd and it caused me loss of sleep for about 3 weeks until i replaced it with the hercules.
Ive just got rid of the bcd on ebay for approx 75% of its purchase price.
Do it now before everyone starts dumping it for the new bcd 3000.
regards richb.

I totally disagree with this statement.
I use to have an Hercules. And because of the size of the controller and reliability problem, I sold the DJC and acquired jumped to the BCD. I use it with a laptop and Moramax's mapper. I'm very pleased with this solution.
Another friend of me has also jumped from the Hercules DJC to BCD.
As Steve says above, it's really a question of personnal feeling and usage to select a controller.

I have tested the BCD in so many ways, I couldnt start to imagine things that I have missed. I even made a music store loan one to me for 3 days before i purchased it - god im a horrible customer haha.
All in all the BCD2000 works fine. My only gripe with the BCD is that the soundcard isnt the best. its much better than any sub standard sound card that comes standard with PC's but isnt as good as your standalones, naturally. What else do you expect from Behringer?
The setup of the BCD is easy, fully customerable (if the software allows it), looks and feels great, in most cases (some sticky knobs included).
BCD as a controller, with the right software, is a perfect and cheap addon. Sure, there is an issue with getting the jogwheel working, but thats not the BCD"s fault. Coding in the MIDI engine of VDJ would need changing to a more standard format.
The lights done work on it if using standard MIDI, big whoop? I am sure we are all smart enough to know if we have pressed a button or not!
BCD as a soundcard = fine if you want to program it as a standard sound card, a little bit more trouble in VDJ is required when ASIO comes in to play - this problem has been resolved by DJ Quintana (apologies if i got it wrong)
In conclusion, please dont flame the BCD. As far as I am concerned there is one issue and one issue only, the MIDI/Jogwheel issue. But, in saying this, this is not the BCD's fault :). How VDJ choose to structure MIDI engines/software is completely up to them so there is no disrespect to VDJ, i wont be touching traktor ever again as soon as I can make the BCD work the way I want, and so far, I have minus the jogwheel issue :).
Cheers,
Steve.

The BCD 3,000. What's the difference?! They look exactly the same, except for the cool white knobs on the 3,000 and some extra software.
I'm still pondering hard on which MIDI controller to go for, the MK2 or BCD 2,000. One thing the MK2 doesn't have is FX mix knobs aswell as FX buttons. The MK2 simply has 4 FX buttons.
But is there any differences in the soundcards of the MK2 and BCD 2,000? and is the BCD really worth the hassel in setting it up with the software? I can imagion the MK2 will be best for reliability in this area, so you can be sure the MK2 will work on any computer. Which, is best. PLEASE HELP!

Does the BCD 2,000 and BCD 3,000 support input of two time coded vinyl decks? The features section suggests it only supports one.
