My problem is that I have quite powerful laptop but I still have performance issues even after trying everything.
LAPTOP SPECS:
============
model: zepto znote 6214w
processor: core 2 duo 2.0 ghz
memory: 2Gb
graphic card: nvidia geforce go 7600, memory 512Mb
OS: XP and Vista Ultimate (on two partitions). Both have only VDJ installed + updates and necessary drivers.
GEAR:
=====
dac-3
2 x XP-10
ESI u46 DJ
Hercules MK1
Ecler Nuo 4 Mixer
(as you can see, I have many soundcards but I get same cracks and pops with each)
EXPERIENCES ON XP
===============
Setup almost work on XP at the moment but I can't use ASIO-mode. In ASIO-mode I get
a lot of cracks and pops, sometimes drop-outs. Same happens with all the soundcards I have: XP-10s, hercules, u46DJ.
In NON-ASIO-mode sound is a lot better, but still get some little pops here and there, they are especially audible when playing ballads.
When playing two VOBs at the same time, CPU is around 90%. When analyzing video, CPU is 100%. Performance settings of VDJ is lowest possible. audio-only mp3s work flawlessly.
EXPERIENCES ON VISTA
=================
CPU is a lot less: around 60% when playing two VOB and 85% when analysing videos. Song loading is a lot faster, never dropouts on audio So vista seems promising but unfortunately there is A HELL LOT OF CRACKS & POPS - with all soundcards: XP-10s, hercules, u46DJ. Performance settings is again lowest possible. I even get cracks and pops when playing audio-only MP3s even on NON-ASIO mode.
CONCLUSIONS
==========
I have read carefully all guides here and tried every possible tweak in both XP & Vista without luck. Can't get rid of cracks and pops! :(
I think it is all about IRQs and DMAs. Graphic card is on IRQ16 which also has two PCI cards, network Card and one USB. I can post exact IRQ info if you want.
I have disabled network card and network services and usb. I can't disable PCIs without disabling the system. Disabling does not help. Changing USB-port of soundcard(s) does not help.
IRQ cannot be changed from the OS. From BIOS there is some IRQ settings, I can choose IRQ3 or IRQ 4 to some port and choose DMA1 or DMA 3. I have tried different bios settings but they dont seem to affect anything. Maybe OS still cover them with own settings?
I am very disappointed to this crappy laptop. With the specs it should be more than enough for videos but it does not! I have feeling of burning a lot of money to nothing :(

Before modyfing IRQ,
disable your ethernet card + wireless card + webcam if you have one
First this USB port is on the same IRQ as the video card:
