That should do fine, the card is mid-range yes but it's supported with a lot of ram and powerful chip, so I'd say this should run VOBs fine.

We can't be 100% sure about anything. Everything looks good, and should work well. Just do your research, and make a decision. That's what we all do.

I read in forum about some issues with nvidia cards used in laptops.that s why I m asking about experience with this one.Maybe this configuration could be better.
# Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 - 1.83GHz (x2), 667MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache
# RAM: 1024MB DDR2-677MHz
# Hard Drive: 120GB
# Screen: 15.4" Widescreen TFT
# Optical Drive: DVD±RW Super Multi
# Graphics: ATI Radeon X1700 supporting 512MB HyperMemory

I don't know about the nVidia card claim. I have only heard about one card that did not work well in laptops. I think it was a "Go" card, but I am not sure. I did not see the x1700 card on that list, maybe I missed it. Do not rush into this. You are on the right track, by asking questions. Hopefully, those with experience with these cards, will give you some insight.

if you want a great laptop for video, dont waste your time with pc, go for a mac - dual core 2.3 plas 2 gigs of ram, dual HD video cards and it will rum windows if your scared of tiger, i know alot of pc guys will start screaming that macs suck, thats only beacause they dont own one, these things are stable as hell expensive but stable, i was and still am running 3 pc's in my booth 1 for light, one for sound, one for video, the video computer has massive harddrives (2600gigs), but when i got my mac and installed VDJ on it get ready fo a whole new world

We won't start screaming "macs suck". We are not that anal. We don't get all hung up about a piece of equipment. You may not know this, but there are far more important things to talk about.

Its too bad all the best software is made on pc's...

Basically all the laptops that say turbocache and hypermemory with regards to the video card means its sharing the ram on your laptop. Normally this isnt ideal for video mixing.... funny thing is vista seems to have changed that sort of thinking.

I've installed vista just recently and the problems I had with video mixing on xp have gone. Runs like a dream.

nVidia Go 7600 256 MB (DEDICATED) RAM on a laptop works just fine.

MAC's suck... just kidding.. had to say it for humor.

It is funny how many MAC users I met who pretty much act snobbish toward the PC thing.
Like they are too good for a PC.

There are obvious pros and cons to using both platforms.

MAC's are stable and expensive. MAC's cannot be custom built and worked on to meet someone's specific needs.

PC's are cheaper and can be built to specs. PC users often have to reach out for tech support due to some issues using your PC.

I believe the main thing is what you know and what works good for you.

I know PC's and know how to build, troubleshoot, and tweak them. Therefore the poor intelligent man's choice is the PC.

MAC's are brainless machines that only require a more money to get one. Anyone can operate a MAC and most likely not crash it.

I find it funny that most of the post here never mention MAC's right off the bat until a MAC user brings it up... "Should use a MAC!! PC's suck! They crash!!" Damn MAC snobs who think their sh^t don't stink.. enough of the attitude... WE GET IT!!! MAC's are superior and we only hope to someday be in the same ranks as a MAC user... not likely for me anyways.. I am content with my PC's... just wish some of these MAC users would stop throwing in PC users faces like a damn religion they are trying to preach. "Get A MAC OR YOU ARE GOING TO HELL!!"

sorry for the rant...

I too am looking into getting a laptop for video mixing in the next few months and would like to know what would work. I know Vista is supposed to help for one and I am guessing issues like video cards won't be as big as a hurdle very shortly!! That is good news!

Next a stiring rendition of "slpish slpash?"

I would have thought - "Leader of the pack" might have been more Apropriate.

I'm looking into getting a refurbished Sony Vaio AR series laptop with 256gb video ram.
MP3JRICK owns one.
It seems like it would be the ideal laptop for vdj.
