How come when I drag a file onto the turntable, it loads very slowly?

Give us some info as to your system specs. I might be able to help.

I have the same problem on my LAPTOP...
Intel Celeron 2.5mhz
XP PRO
1.5 gigRam
80 gig hard drive with 250 gig external
VDJ v4.3
I've done all the tweaks from previous blogs, etc. my laptop on has VDJ installed with the external sound card. Nothing else running, I never had this problem till I continued updating VDJ. My desktop has a tone of junk on it and VDJ 4.3 runs fine. I have a powered USB hub that runs my sound card and external hard drive. Everything that I don't need to run my system is shut off. Songs just take too long to load, I have to wait till a song loads before hitting play because if it reaches the load point it will freeze, once one song is loaded I can play it, mess with the effects and even load another song, but if I try playing the other song at the same time to monitor, for example, and if it reaches the loading point all hell breaks loose. What is taking up all my processes? Is my laptop not worthy? I've yet to take my laptop on the rode cause I can't get it work at home. But I've used it before with no problems. On idea that came to mind was my fan. I have a toshiba for a laptop cause I was told it wouldn't run as hot as others, but maybe mine is just too dirty so it's not working right?

trullero - what performance settings are you using in the config? Are they identical to your desktop install?
Mensajes Sat 28 Apr 07 @ 5:26 pm
For both:
check in device manager if your Ide channel is not set in PIO mode. It should be in DMA mode.
the files loads faster if you scanned them before play.
Hope this helps.

He is asking how did you setup performance tab in VDJ settings, is it the same as on a desktop?
Mensajes Thu 03 May 07 @ 10:36 pm
Yes to the preformance settings question. I actually have my desktop running at optimum and works great! I have my laptop running on minimum now and still nothing.
I'm about ready to blast my Laptop. I wonder if there is a way to revert back to an older version of VDJ because I never had these problems when I had a basic setup now I have bigger memory and bigger hard drives and now I can't even mix. I've cleared my laptop completely, was working in safe mode but now in normal mode, oops, still same problems. When I went to do a custom unistall of VDJ, I did notice that it showed the same files twice, hmm, I did first use the trial version and then upgraded. IS there a possibility that both versions are running when I click on VDJ, I don't see how that's an option if when you upgrade a file, it asks if you want to replace old with the new.
I don't know but this is frustrating, it takes atleast two minutes for one song to load now and I can't even mix.
When I open VDJ, my CPU usage sores to 85% stays there and the minute I click and drag a song it goes to 100% and the song loads veryvery slow. Hoping it isn't the program, here's another thing I noticed, my cooling fan doesn't stay on a steady spin, not sure if that's something to worry about since this happens with my LAPTOP cold or hot.
Don't want to believe I have to get another laptop to use this program.
IS there anyone who sells laptops optimize for VDJ only? I know sweetwater.com does it for PRO TOOLS.
Hmm, hey if anyone starts the business after this forum, I want 50% since it was my idea LOL

Try using the registry tool and put a check in the Speedload box. Also how many processes are running while VDJ is running. An optomized XP should run at about 24 processes.
Mensajes Thu 03 May 07 @ 11:36 pm
there's about 26 processes running. I sometimes shut them off but there's a few that won't and a svchost.exe that will make my system shut down without stopping it. explorer.exe is on, I much rather not shut it off though.
I'm scanning my hard drive but I'm still on the first folder, is there a quicker way to scan or does it have to scan every last song, that's over 250 gig of music it will scan, now, if it scans once, will this be enough?

You need to analyze every song. Does loading an analyzed song take as long to load??? You also want to make a shortcut for Save_Database and do this when you are done analyzing BEFORE you shut down VDJ. Then copy this database somewhere safe on your PC (C:Program Files/Virtual DJ/Database(user name).xml). Put this somewhere safe incase of a corrupt situation. And yes you only need to scan a particular song once.

Ok, I'm scanning again, now I click on the local database link and it doesn't give me the option to copy, I'm gonna copy my hd like you said, just wasn't sure if I had to copy from that database link.
I will let you know the outcome, I appreciate the help, this is really driving me insane cause it was working fine before the upgrades and tweaks from previous blogs, etc. It just doesn't make sense how my CPU is at 100% to load a track. Might be my sound card?
I'm using a USB powered Hub which I use to connect my HD and Sound Blaster external Sound Card, hmm. Any recommended external sound cards besides my sound blaster Live.

You need to find the database file from windows explorer under C: Program Files/Virtualdj/database(username).xml.

I've got the same problem as kjaway..but it's not always and mostly after I've mixed more than an hour or so... if i restart my laptop everything is fine again... but i (still) don't have the pro and i use the herkules mkII..
laptop should be ok it's a samsung x50 wvm2130 (something like that)
i think the problem is that i have sometimes too much progs (antivir, itunes etc) running but i'm not sure at all
