my mac spits out dvds on the mac & windows side. I put it in & 10 seconds later it spits it out. It does read cds fine though. It doesn't matter if its a blank or a retail movie. I'm thinking the drive is bad....but I haven't had this computer for a year yet.

Any ideas?

Do you have apple care?

Do you have the install DVD? Perhaps you should put it in and see if it will boot off of it? Or run the Diagnostic software that came with your Mac. I think its called TEchtools...

don't have apple care but hasn't been a year yet. I'll try the diagnostic when I get home. How do I run it?

low blow....just did a google search for tech tools...basically this is what the page said:

"TechTool Deluxe is only available with an AppleCare Protection Plan"

I'm thinking my drive is bad. I have burned alot of dics....probaly close to 200....but I have burned over 2000 with my plextor & its still going strong. Maybe its the optical drive thing....but there isn't much info with people having this problem....only people that get the disc stuck.

If anyone has any ideas besides contacting apple....let me know. The drives are 180 on ebay....but I'm pretty sure apple will replace for free since it hasn't been a year yet. I just have to deal with not having my pc for a couple weeks. LOW BLOW.

Its crazy how reliant we get with our computers. Its almost like we need two that mirror eachother over night just incase one goes down the other can get repaired.
