i'm sure its possible to set up a dual boot on your computer, so you can just run virtual dj, instead of all the windows gubbins too - i think i read it on here one time...?

can anyone help? or has anyone got tips for improving the performance of my laptop, save buying more ram? (which maybe i will just do instead...)

cheers

Hello, could you give us some system specs to the machine in question. You may have some other options. You may be able to install a fresh copy of XP or even Vista. Just doing the fresh install would be where I would start as it gets rid of all the crap that the manufacturer pre loads on these systems. Then I would go through and tweak the system to run the minimal amount of processes. Feel free to ask questions as that is what we are all here for.

sky - if i set up 2 users on xp, and do the
"Run only Virtual Dj on startup (Tue 26 Dec 06 @ 20:13:23)" thing, will this only happen with one login? is it possible to view files outside virtual dj or is it purely vdj?

brian - i've set up another user on xp, and stripped it right back to max the performance, i used tune up, and then had a quick lok manually at display properties etc

i've not got a copy of xp to install (i don't think i would bother with vista)

cheers

yes if you use the keys just for that count which in the guide are highlighted as LOCAL user

on that acount only vdj will run

but it is possible to view files by hitting ALT + Control + Delete

and using the Run box

I run dual-boot on my laptop. WinXP for VDJ and Vista for my regular everyday use. I did the following steps.

Put in Vista DVD and booted to install.
I created three separate partitions (a 50GIG for Vista, a 10GIG for XP, and the rest for all my videos which was about 85GIG on my 160GB HD).
I formatted all three partitions in the order (Vista, then XP, then Videos so it created a C: D: E: drive)
I told it it install Vista on the C: partition. It then started copying the files but I immediately cancelled the install (important)
I booted up WinXP CD and did an install to the winXP partition (D: drive). Did the full XP install.
When that was done I shut down and re-started up the Vista install. Told Vista to install on C: partition. Vista recognizes the XP partition and creates the master boot record properly (automatically). Install Vista completely.

Wala. Next time you reboot... you will have the option to either boot Windows Vista... or "Earlier version of Windows" which in this case is WINXP.

Works like a charm
