Since I solved some of the problems with the April 2007 update, I recommend to everyone using XP to update with this new one.

Everywhere you want, you will install it from that location running dxsetup.exe.

If anyone have issue with missing Direct X 9 (or 10 in Vista), check this site:
http://www.m3fe.com/760/
you can find the missing file in there and add it manually. I found this when I wanted to try the Lost Planet Extreme Condition demo for PC:
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_lostplanet_downloads.html
and it would not start because of a missing dll file in Direct X 10 on Vista.
I tried the demo with 8600Gt 256Mb and I must say I am impressed!

well what i did was saved it to a file to have it for later use if needed and when i double click it i asks where to extract to and i dont know what file to send it to. i did a serch from the start and it didnt give me a location for the the other direct _x files as to update well i guess ill just redownlaod it and run it from the site

Here's what I do.
I create 3 folders on my desktop, one for installs, one for downloads and one for drivers.
In the driver folder I create a folder for directx, save the file to there.
Then open and unzip to here opening the zipped folder in the same location.
When you open it you will see folders tagged by month, ignore these and find the one that says "setup.exe".
Double click this and let it run.

I recommened doing what mp3rick suggests, however i wouldn't keep the folders on the desktop.
Storing the folders on the desktop results in your Windows user profile folder becoming bloated and hence longer bootup times.
