I have a dell laptop would like to use virtual dj on with and have it send sound to my home stereo system , what other hardware do I need to buy

You need external sound card like Sound Blaster Live 5.1 USB, you will have prelisten and output on separate channels. Basically any 4 channels card will do the job.
