Just wondered how often you enjoyed your Gigs?

Personally, i'd say i really enjoy about 90% of my jobs, but with the other 10% feeling like a real chore, mostly when i end up needing to play music that i'm just not into!

When I'm DJ'ing I would wish I was at home, when I'm home I wish I was DJ'ing.

This is how I often feel, when I'm obligated to do something it feels more like a job than a pleasure, you can never plan your mood for a night, sometimes I'd rather sleep or socialize, but for the most part I enjoy gigs and that's why I do them.

Same here, when I have to play domestic **it I am bored but I really don't listen it and I take a chair and put my bottom to rest as this music doesn't require any mixing at all (too many different BPM's) that way I have a brake from house music which I mix and jump and scream and mic work.... But yes, it can be boring sometimes and you don't enjoy it, but every job gets boring sometimes, so better to be a DJ than something else (well, maybe Porsche test driver :)) ). LOL

Yeah.. feel exactly the same, you can only do so many backspins!
What i do sometimes, just to keep myself interested in that situation, is cue a song and find a decent part to loop (which can be tricky sometimes if it's mostly vocals), then fade it over and allow it to loop 2 or 3 times just to funk it up a bit.

@digimixer, being a porn star likes to much hard work, for me

rather have a nice cup of tea and chill, lol

I usually have fun DJing. Sometimes the long Saturdays kill me though. My Saturday residency stays open till 3a (thank god its not a 5a bar). It's 2 rooms downstairs + an upstairs with an outside patio up there. Problem is there are always private parties in the room where the booth is. I walk in at 9:30 and usually start at 10 but as soon as I get in the booth people come with their requests! Seriously last week I had at least 50-70 requests throughout the night. By the time the party is over (usually at 11p) the people are wasted from trying to get the most out of their drink package. Then they get real needy. We open the room up for the rest of the customers to join and it turns into a mess...

We also have a Stripper Pole almost right next to the booth. I can't stand when its 11p and girls want that slutty music instead of something tasteful and appropriate for the time.

Also hate DJing hungover!

Other than those issues...Usually have a good time behind the decks. Love it when a large group of friends come in for bottle service, which they usually sit near the booth.

I usually like to DJ any event except those times in a club when the regulars think they priority and request a list to you. Then they get upset if you don't play their song in a timely manner or at all. Alot of times I choose not to play their song because it doesn't fit into my format for that night. I figure they are going to be there anyway. It's the new clients that should be won over.

I think I in general enjoy all my gigs!
I'm usually the very first to show up and always the last to quit partying.
I think this has to do with the fact that I very seldom do residencies. I'm usually hired to to special R&B and Hip-Hop parties, which means I always get to play the music I like, and even better, the crowd comes to see me play rather than just going out on town to get drunk.
This of course does result in not getting as much gigs as I could when having a residency, but the small brakes keeps the gigs far enough apart to keep me inspired all the time and not get boored with the music.
Og course, there has been gigs which have sucked through the years, but mainly I feel very lucky to be able to do what I love, and that people actually enjoy what I do is just an added bonus.
For me, the feeling I get everytime the crowd reacts to one of my mixes or tracks is almost unsurpassed.
It's right up there with sex, car racing and sky diving (actually, I found sky diving kinda booring...*yawn*)

I have never seen / heard the words car racing and hip hop in the same sentence, paragraph or even in the same thaught.

I always enjoy the part when someone hands me a check.........

I wouldn't enjoy that part, I enjoy someone handing me cash though.

im a resident dj three nights a week usually starting at 10pm and finishing around 5-6pm - this can really kill a passion for DJing and turn in into a 'job'. the same songs get requested and people get annoyed when i dont play it straight away - even if i only just played it!

every night is different, some nights arent as busy as others and that can make me lose confidence. but when the dance floor is constantly full - i know im doing something right! and i take it personally if the dancefloor is thin.

i think you just gotta remember why you got into the DJin in the first place. i started for a couple of reasons - love seeing people havin a good time and dancing to what i'm playing, love of music (making and producing my own as well), and i had friends who were djs and they told me about how much money you can make!

stick to what you love - try not to change your style too much (u still gotta please the crowd!) your style is what makes you different than the DJ down the road.

Never?? Didn't you watch 2 fast 2 furious??hehe...
Well, the problem it that I'm an adrenaline junkie with self inflicted A.D.D..hehe.. The examples are just to illustrate what it takes to satisfy me in that way (OK, this is starting to sound weird..hehe) But the crowd response when DJ'ing does it...hehe

i mostly enjoy what i do and i suspect that is true of most of us ........i believe that the more you can stamp your personality on the proceedings and be a really good MC first the more success you will have

we all get the same requests ...........

I would just reply "always", since I only take gigs where I can play the music I enjoy mixing... On the other hand, it's much harder to get gigs when you limit yourself this way, but DJing is not my main job, more like a hobby really...

Once you turn it into a job, I think it becomes less fun. I'd say 50-50 I enjoy playing at the club to a young crowd more then I enjoy playing a wedding for an old crowd. However the ladder pays more. Everyone has a bad night, hell I had one last night but ended up with a few extra bucks due to overtime charges. I'm glad school starts soon.

I don;t mind weddings they're relaxing compared to working the Club.

However the Club is much more fun.

And the girls are prettier at the club compared to any wedding I've ever been to.
