Tópico: Some Basic Video Questions

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I'm new to video. I decided to try it out on my home theatre projector before purchasing everything. I plugged the projector into my computer through usb connection. I can't set it up with the standard connector because I only have one and the monitor is hooked up to it. I can't figure out how to get the projector to play what is on my computer. In regards to VDJ, I activated video in the config section. For tV output it only gives me a choice of window. I don't think it's a VDJ problem as I should be able to see anything that's on my computer through the projector. On my laptop for presentations there is a key on the keyboard to switch video output to a projector.

Can someone help me locate something similar on my desktop? I'm using windows XP Pro. Thanks in advance.

You have to extend the desktop for the second screen in the Display config of Microsoft Windows

Thanks. I just figured that out but it looks like my projector isn't recognized on my system. Like I mentioned I had to connect via usb and I think that's the problem. It did pop up as found new hardware and then said installed correctly when I connected it. I restarted the computer. It doesn't show up in the Display>settings area where I would extend. It turns out I do have a second monitor connection on the PC but the plug from the projector is male and the PC connection is male. It's got me wondering if I can find a chord with a female/female plug setup. Has anyone been able to connect a projector via usb?

OK, this was certainly a basic thread. The usb part of the projector chord isn't for video projection it is to plug into a remote control or mouse control. I did find something called a VGA distribution amplifier that looks like it will fix my problem if I can't find female/female chord or a male/female adapter.

I was gonna say, it's usually vga or s-video, i haven't run into a usb video out before.

DJEJ - Don't waste your money on expensive accessories.

All you need is a 3 dollar "Gender Bender" from any Computer parts store.

Get a standard cord and a couple of Gender reversers - they plug right on the end of your cord and change it from male to female. And you should be off to the races.

Also Check on the back of Your Projector. It's very rare for a projector to have a male video input. Are you sure that's not the output for daisy-chaining?

Most Video projectors (now) will have a RCA input, a S-video input and a VGA/RGB input. and a VGA output for daisy-chaining projectors together.

Thanks for the advice so far, things have progressed. Quick synopsis, I am trying to hook up VDJ video to my home theatre projector. I just found out that what I thought was a second monitor input (hence the adapter posts above) on my desktop is an RS...something connection... input for image scanners and such. So, here I am. I don't see any other video out on the computer. The inputs on the projector are VGA, S-video and some other options. It's an IN Focus DLP XP model. I use the S Video for connection for my theatre stuff. The VGA is open and the label says computer in. This is the same cable that I hook to my laptop and it works. It would probably work if I hook it to the monitor input on the computer but then I wouldn't be able to use the monitor. The problem though is really I don't have any more video outputs on my Computer. With my laptop I can get it to work. Do higher end video cards come with inputs?

If your laptop has the correct card in it - it should be able to run dual monitors.

Check in your desktop and see if it has a T.V. out.

Also Most PCI-E Video cards will have dual monitor outs that allow for dual monitor use ( video output.)

If Your Tower compy has a t.v out you might be required to get a Adapter module from the motherboard manufacture for the T.V output
(RGB)

Also in VDJ you'll have to tell it in the video tab to use the dual monitor - it shows up in the drop down menu - just chose your card.

Also Your post above said there wer video INPUTS - What you're looking for is video OUTPUTS from your compy and INPUTS on your Projector.

Thanks Marcel. Yes I mistyped input instead of outputs. When you say PCI-E Video cards will have dual monitor outs, just so I understand, that means they will have a place on the card to plug in a chord, correct? Is the Nvidia 8600GT that type of card? I'll check for TV out when I get home but I'm guessing it doesn't.

the usb connection on the projector is usually for serial control, ie input select power off on etc and sometimes to let the projector remote control the mouse for power points.

Most PCI-E cards will have two actuall VGA output connectors for you - as well as a S-Video output

That Card you mention - does indeed have DUal monitor our - 2 VGA and an Optiona S-Video out - I have a the same card in 256GB version.

But I actually recently changed it to a 512GB ati 2600 pro - So far been having nice results - but am thinking of changeing O/S to vista.
