I will have a job interview at the local roller Skating rink and they said they need skating music. Can anyone suggest some track titles or any info sources for skating music?

top 40 for sure, keep the beats up is the main thing, 110 - 125 bpm
and any slow mushy stuff for the couples skate. the hokey pokey, and other fun game songs are good too. but you may need to run this by management to see if they play games like the hokey pokey or limbo.

To me, roller skating music is all that late 70s, early 80s, soul, funk & disco. Stuff like Earth, Wind & Fire, Chic, Gap Band, Rick James etc. You can't go wrong with good old school music from that era. Also, if you can, rent the video Roll Bounce. It's a nice film about a bunch of kids in Chicago who are into roller skating. The sound track from the movie is fabulous...

I'd check out the crowd and decide what to play. Definitely keep it high energy, no matter what kind of crowd it is. Promo Only has a DVD named Rink Essentials. That has some good suggestions.
As for the interview, I'd tell them that you'll play the music for the crowd to keep them there having fun. Give examples of what you'd play if it's a bunch of kids, or if the place was filled with adults. If it's a mix of all ages, you'll play a mix of music. Let them know you can handle anything.

Or, you could visit this and any other rink in the area, on different themed nights, and see what's being played. The PromoOnly Rink DVD is hot, but may only be good for old school nights.

Are they into Jam/Boogie Skating? As a former rink rat, I've got a list that should help:
George Clinton - Atomic Dog

College Boyz - Humpin'
Grand Master Flash - The Message
Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express, Metal on Metal
One Way - Cutie Pie, Mr Groove, Pull Fancy
SHG - Apache
SHG/Erick Sermon - Rapper's Delight
Sir Mix-A-Lot - Beepers, Jump On It
Spoonie G/Sequence - Monster Jam
Sequence - Funk You Up
Tom Tom Club/Mariah Carey - Genius Of Love/Fantasy [ODB Remix]
Zapp & Roger - Dance Floor, More Bounce, Do Wah Ditty, I Can Make You Dance, Heartbreaker
Chi-Lites - Bottoms Up
Here's a pretty good Quad-Skating Forum i've followed for a couple years. This is a link to a 'Favorite Music' thread:

Birdie song (aka Chicken Dance) was always big when i went rollerskating, and also YMCA and Macharina, anything with specified dance steps, that are not to feet heavy. IE cotton eye joe, probably not the best, but actually people would probably like that. Maybe not something like soldier boy, be very odd to see someone doing that on roller skates

An important thing to establish first, is to find out what your age demographic is. If it's say 13 - 17 the oldskool won't go over so well;^]
