Tópico: Subwoofer suggestions please!

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hi all,

So my current mobile dj setup is a QSC powerlight 2.0hv amp and 2 electrovoice sx200 speakers, with a bdx driverack pa for eq, etc. And I want to expand at some point with a sub or two.

The speakers are 8 ohms, 300w rms (1200w peak) each but are a little lacking in the low end, but fine for weddings, etc.

The amp does 725w rms at 8 ohms, or 1000w rms at 4 ohms. (It kicks but!)

So I'm thinking that a pair of passive subs would be a good way to go, but which ones!? Space is a real issue, so the smaller the better really. but it's got to be decent sound.

I've used a mackie SW1501 in the past, and even managed to fit two in my car for one large gig. It sounded pretty good, but with just the one sub it's not all that. At the moment I'd only be able to afford one mackie sub, and they are pretty heavy, so passive might be the way to go since I think that amp should be man enough to handle it all (to start with at least).

I noticed the electrovoice sb122 subs on the net, they would be ideal- if they are as good as I hope they are. The amount of sound that comes out of the sx200 tops is amazing, but subs are a whole different ball game.

So here's the question, has anybody had any experience with the ev sb122 subs? Also, does anybody have any other suggestions of small subs that you know sound good?

Sorry dude, That sub is NOT the answer. Any sub that is in a cabinet designed for tops is gonna suck real bad. EV is a GREAT company that makes really good Pro grade speakers but those are NOT pro grade and will leave you real disappointed.

Hey, thanks for all those! I guess that's a no to the ev sb122 subs then (thought they looked too good to be true). I'll have a look to see if that carvin is availible here in the uk.

well my "?" is do i need a cross over to use the subwoofer so the only things that comes out is the bass....i have an pro pyle amp peak power 3000 watts, two 1200 watt pro pyle speeakers with 1 tweeter horn and 5 other tweeters and to 15 inch speakers on both sets....and two small speakers 100 watts each...

Cerwin Vegas for sale £200 as new

Hi charlie, what model are the cerwin vegas? £200 for a pair or each? Where abouts in the country are you btw? I quite fancy some, and i think cerwin vegas are a pretty good make.

sonido, I'm a bit confused about what your setup is. Do you have 2 large speakers, each with 2 15inch cones, horns and tweeters (and 2 more 100w speakers). 4 boxes in total?

If you do, then no, you don't need a crossover, they are always built into the speaker box. You might want a second amp to power your smaller speakers though, I'm not sure what happens when you connect massive speakers and small ones to the same amp. I've got a feeling the small speakers won't like it though.

I have been using the cerwin vega earthquake for years and the only complaints come from the neighbors at the parties that I play at.

Yes, the EV sub122 sounds pretty good for a 12" sub. I also own a pair of Dynacord D12 passive speakers that I use with the Dynacord crossmax signal processor. I use It like a sattelite set in small venue 2 tops and 1 bottom. In bigger venues I use 2 tops and 2 bottoms. One bottom is the EV Sub122 and a Dynacord D-lite 2000 sub115 passive.

It Is a very light, mobile, agile and yet very powerful system.

If you need more info on It let me know!

Don' t let the look fool you. It looks like the box of a top, but It Is actually a bottom design called High-Speed-Laminar-Vent Design. It has a tighter base response than a great deal of 15\" and 18\" subs out there.

The small EV Sub122 has a kick a$$$ sound you would not believe.

cerwin vega earthquake hands down the hell with all else

Dydy1,

I hear ya man. They are not bad at all for what they are. I have heard them and used them.

They will add SOME low end to a system but can't boom it out like a sub in a LARGER CABINET.

The Cabinet will not allow for this sub to move enough air around to make a substantial difference. It just does not have the room to let the bass out.

It DOES give a nice tight punchy bass sound and it will complement a very small system but it does not really give nor is it able to produce the deep strong bass that some want, need or are looking for.

Hmmm, the plot thickens.

Like I said, space is an issue (and money) and I'm doing most Gigs with just a pair of the EV Sx200 tops at the moment. (And I quite like the sound to be honest). Maybe the Sb122 could be the answer to add a bit more kick.

Does the Sb122 have a high pass output so I could use it without a crossover?
