Just curious as to how many people actually use the built in crossfader in vdj.

I've purchased a mixer online and still awaiting delivery but in the meantime I've had to use my keyboard as the crossfader.

I've got a couple of xp10's and scratch quite a bit, funnily enough I think im pretty good @ scratching and using the keyboard now after a few hours of practice lol.

Does anyone else use the keyboard for controlling the crossfader?

Of course, a lot of people use keyboard shortcuts. It's very powerfull

I even believe that you could mapp the pitch of xp10 like a crossfader :-)

i use the keyboard for crossfader only when i wanna cut..
it's the earrow-left and right for 100% and the shift for center.
normaly i use the external fader of the mixer. (not the console)

the xp10 should have a crossfader or something... that is the only reason i don't buy these products... they are missing very important things!

I think if you are to the level that you are ready to spend $1k+ on controllers, then you are more than likely beyond the capability of the software eq as well.

The addition of an external mixer has done more to improve my mixing than the XP10's, actually.

I don't use the crossfader at all. I use an external mixer.

I ACTUALLY USE BOTH CROSSFADER DEPENDING ON WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH THE MIX, REMEMBER IF YOU ARE RECORDING THE EXTERNAL MIXER WON'T AFFECT THE RECORDING AT ALL REMEMBER THAT...

As a general answer to the question, I find the following keyboard mapping for crossfader action very effective. Ultimately I still use an external mixer, but more so for ensuring that my headphone cue is amplified enough in noisy environments. If you want to know more about this configuration, you may send me mail.

keyboardmap.xml resulting in the entire top row of number keys controlling the fader.

sc key="1" action="crossfader" value="0"
sc key="2" action="crossfader" value="512"
sc key="3" action="crossfader" value="1024"
sc key="4" action="crossfader" value="1536"
sc key="5" action="crossfader" value="2048"
sc key="6" action="crossfader" value="2048"
sc key="7" action="crossfader" value="2560"
sc key="8" action="crossfader" value="3072"
sc key="9" action="crossfader" value="3584"
sc key="0" action="crossfader" value="4096"

note that you need to add the tag identifiers to each line.

Why do you have two tags "2048" ? It's useless to my mind as it's the middle

because it doesn't hurt and in fact is a safety. Why skip a key ? What else would I use the # 5 or 6 key to do in this configuration ? As a practical example, when you do quick meadly mixes as I sometimes do, there is no time to remember if it is the 5 or 6 key that is the middle.

@digijoc-Mele

Wouldn't be easier if you set on key right +30 or more and on key left -30 or more (for faster movement)??
Like this you won't need all 10 keys. just two of them. And movement of crossfader will be more smoothly.

In his case, it's more +512 and -512

Ah yes, I do have that as well on the "-" and "+" keys for those situations when I want to control the fader in that way as follows:

sc keycode="4108" action="crossfader" value="-16"
sc keycode="4109" action="crossfader" value="+16"

This is the beauty of vDJ, you can customize to whatever suits your taste, so in this case the value determines the speed of the fader movment... absolutely brilliant flexibility of vDJ, but the 10 key configuration also suits my particular need very well, so I have the best of both worlds [:o)

there 2 main strong points of vdj. only 2.
1. the wave form
2. keyboard shortcuts.

thats all that needs to be said.
