Hey guys,
I have a lot of ideas for creating mash-ups but I don't have any software that allows me to do that.
Do you have any advices concerning any softwares (free or not) that I could download/buy so that I could finally make my own mash-ups?
Thankyou in advance.
Julien

Wow well there is a lot of choice actually! I am not looking for a VIDEO mash-up software, audio mash-up software is enough... So I hope you guys didn't give me only video ones haha!
Thankyou for your advices anyway ;)
But I am just curious about this DJ Cyder... I feel like you are against mash-ups, aren't you? xD

Well For the last 3 years everyone is playing the same ones and the dj's are all pretending they have come up with it on there own. Call me old school but there is something about blending 2 songs in different keys that makes me very sick to my stomach.

The mashup scene is huge, and some of the mashups have made it even to nr1 at charts...
For example : Mylo vs. miami sound machine - doctor pressure

I totally agree, the only mashups I like are ones when the vocals actually suit the instrumental (the same key and blend well with chord changes), otherwise my ears bleed.
Interesting story... a DJ friend of mine got a new Saturday night gig at a club, he's a good DJ and mixes really well and keeps it simple (mixes one track into the next at the appropriate mix points). He knows the Friday night DJ who apparently plays nothing but mashups and actually goes as far as playing all the mashups ripped from the "DJ Hero" video game. At the end of his "audition" gig my DJ friend thought everything went great, had a beer with the owner and seemed confident he had landed the gig, only to find out a couple of days later that he didn't. He was told he needed to "work on his mixing". The reason he said this is because he was comparing him to the Friday night mashup DJ. What he didn't know is that the Friday night guy doesn't mix at all but rather slam cuts between mashups and DJ Hero tracks, but the perception is that he's mixing all the mashups live, which is not the case at all. The sad thing is that the crowd is tricked into thinking the same thing. They probably think "wow, this DJ really knows how to mix" when the exact opposite is true. Sad :( If I ever hear a DJ spinning tracks from DJ Hero I'm going to give him a Captain Kirk style beating.

There are blends and there are mashups. Thing is if this is all the dj magic you have you may as well give up now. Anyways I could go on all day about this, but here's something to think about. As a dj you play to the crowd the average club goer doesn't want to hear their favorite song doubled in bpm and smashed on top of another unrelated song with clashing keys for all of 30 seconds.

I have a few friends who are mashup DJs, but they actually put the effort in to make it sound right (key changes, etc...) They all use Ableton, btw.

i have to agree with DJ cyder, the 'mashup thing' has already 'jumped the shark' and is overused and abused..
If your just starting now, by the time you get good at them, the public will be saying 'stop'..
your time might be better spent finding the next great thing, and joining that "bandwagon" instead of the one thats already left and the wheels are about to fall off.
(in my lowly opinion)

you are so funny Cyder..... I hear what you are saying.. you listen to some mashups you can almost tell that who ever created it is tone deaf but thanks to things like harmonic mixing key and the introduction of this in virtualdj it is now possible be a lot more creative and completely on key and doing things that you would never have imagined... Mashups etc have taken on new possibilities and even live... remixing on the spot -no off key hiting Cyder... completely rocking the crowd

Don't get me wrong, mixing it up on the fly is great if you can do it, I'm just tired of seeing the youtube mashup videos played in the clubs with the fake dj's pretending they are clever :)
