Which Zed FX is it? There are lots of different models.
How are you interfacing VDJ and the Zed FX? Are you trying to use VDJ's onboard recording option or are you trying to record with/from the Zed FX?
Where are the mics plugged in?

I asked how you were interfacing the two (VDJ and the Zed)...
In other words, how have you connected them together? Are you using the USB audio interface on the Zed? If so, in what way?
Are you using the Zed as an INPUT to VDJ (in which case the mics plugged into the Zed will record to VDJ), or as an OUTPUT (sending the audio from VDJ into the Zed?
If you're doing the latter, then of course the mics (plugged into the Zed) will not record in VDJ - because VDJ is first in the chain. You'd be recording BEFORE the sound had reached the Zed (where the mics get mixed in).
VDJ (recording) -> Zed (mics) = no mics being recorded to VDJ. Zed (mics) -> VDJ (recording) = mics will record.
