When I search songs in my database the list automatically expands. Can you turn OFF this feature?

Could you please explain what you mean by saying that "list automatically expands" ?
If you want to search for something only within the current list and not your entire database then on search options uncheck "Search Local Files" and leave only "Search current folder" checked
