For simple left/right panning, you can use the built-in master_balance vdjscript as well
 
Can't find in the Addons page of my copy of VDJ (v8 4-64 b5402), which the Addons page on the site insists that I install from... Any advice?
 
64 bit VDJ will not run 32 bit plugins....

VDJ has a native balance script anyway, that you can add to a custom knob.
