I am looking to upgrade my laptops. Currently, I have 2 lenovo thinkpads and I use an external hard drive and external sound card to connect to my system. Here are my questions:
1. What make/model and other specs have you fine folks had great success with?
2. Do most of you store your music on the laptop or an external drive?
3. How do most of you handle the external sound card scenario?

Any tips or recommendations here?

Lenovo is recommending these:

First of all avoid Lenovo for many reasons.

Really interested in why. I know the legion AMD laptops have audio latency issues, but think the Intel version is fine and is generally a great laptop. The 120hz screen isn't great and bright, so look for a spec with a better screen.
