Esta parte del tópico es antigua y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

What did you use before VDJ?

I used and still use OTS for DJ work and sax n dotty for karaoke.

VDJ is simply for videos now but I'm converting my OTS files into mp3's so I can have them in VDJ.

Before VDJ? Here is my full migration path for each type of media (starting in 1985 :)

Music: tapes & vinyl -> CD -> PCDJ Red -> PCDJ FX -> PCDJ Red -> VDJ
Karaoke: Sax & Dotty -> PCDJ FX -> Sax & Dotty -> VDJ
Video: -> DVD players -> Winamp -> MixVibes -> Winamp -> VDJ

Also bought (wasted money in most cases) on other software and experimented along the way, but never got enough confidence with any of them to use them regularly:
MixVibes
Miss Pinky
MixMeister
MixMan

Hardware controllers I have used:
Hercules
DMC-1
X-Session
TCV (only with Miss Pinky)
DM2 (only with MixMan)

Software and Hardware I plan to possibly incorporate in the near future:
Ableton Live
Propellerheads Reason
XP10's
BCD2000 or Hercules MK2 (depending on community feedback once they are released)

It has never been called "v0.0" because that means nothing...
That was "virtualdj" ;)

I guess that means he was using nothing... ;)

At my first club DJ job (around 1986), I used mostly 2 Technics 1200 and cassette tapes. Stop laughing.

From about 1995 until December of 2004, I used xmms (x11amp) on Linux laptops to DJ parties.

December 2004 I purchased Hercules DJ console and it was bundled with VDJ 1.09.

I now have (2) xp10, (2) Technics DZ1200 for TCCD and latest VDJ. So VDJ is the only real DJ software I have ever used.

is it possible to have some "history screenshots" of that first virtualdj version,
or probably a download (limited)

maybe that's the way to go for GOLD members.

One of the extras.

I first discovered Computer DJ'ing in a games shop..the ejay mixtation (basically a lite version atomix).
Seeing the "Atomix logo" I searched the net for atomix, and saw the official site.., I started useing it just to see what can be done with it, I actually came to quite like it.., although at this point I only had a desktop pc and no 3D soundcard.

I then wanted to pursue Digital dJ'ing and develope my skills to a more proffesional standard, Virtual dJ had just been released, and i'd already been playing with the Traktor demo.

I actually like both, but found Virtual dJ to be more familiar as I first discovered atomix, considering Virtual DJ was at an early version I found fors and againsts for both softwares.

Eventually, I decided on VDJ for the following reasons.

Familiar interface
logical outlay
Skin-able (Fruits CDJ700's skin did it for me)
actively developed Effects
Overlapping waveform (very unique)
Great community associated with the software.

Trying VDJ on just a desktop again, I soon realised it's great proffesional potential, which would include a few needed updates, and ultimately me splashing out on some gear.

Firstly I bought a laptop, which seemed to make things feel much better, then I bought the Hercules controller despite being informed on it's flaws, I needed the soundcard, and only wanted it for jogging and pitching, I also bought a mixer so I wouldn't have to suffer with the hercules crossfader/eq knobs (my home set-up can be seen in my blog)

Also most of the updates I felt I needed arrived, and they arrived fast!.

Hey Bagpuss,

Ironic that one of the features that swayed you toward VDJ is the overlapping waveforms, especially considering that you have recently been such an advocate against using the waveforms to help you stay on beat ;)
