I initially got VDJ as a precautionary step to make sure this is what i really wanted to do and what i was into...i'm loving it, but i now need to go to next step and actually purchase some equipment...
It's a pricey world out there so to avoid making any stupid decisions i wondered if one of you who is more experienced with actual DJing could help me out...
Okay, so i mainly mix house/trance with whatever inspiration i get...the basic equipment i would need to start with would be...a mixer right? As well as the computer software that goes along with it. I don't want or need vinyl tables just yet, so what should i be looking for? I want to be able to create my own quality mixes and introduce so those sound effects you hear professional DJ's use but which I just can't seem to get right on VDJ. Any info about that or how to better my VDJ usage would be reallyt useful. Thanks.

Hey kman025...:o)

I have to say it really depends on what sort of setup you will be having. Will you be mixing in a club? Or just a 'closet' bedroom dj? Get your specs for what you will be doing.

You are absolutely correct. It's an expensive business, the music business, but the best one to be in...;o)

Take a look at some of the blogs you find here on the website and you can see what sort of equipment others are using. Then from there, decide what sort of gear you think you should have.

Obviously the most important equipment you need is your PC/Lappie. Try and super dooper-ise (!?!?!?) your machine with as many gadgets as possible. Get good strong pc components, and then look to your equipment. Yes, a mixer will be great, then with a mixer comes an amp and speakers and so on and so on.

If money is no object (although usually it is) then go for the best equipment you can buy, but you can scour the web for loads of good deals for gear. A few of the website I use (i'm from the UK) are:

http://www.djkit.co.uk/
http://www.rs100.co.uk/
http://www.thedjshop.co.uk/

I'm sure you could also find gear for sale on ebay and ebay shops, but there's always that little bit of uncertainty if you can't try before you buy.

Go forth...and spend wisely!!!

Cheers...and keep spinnin'...:o)

The next step...

I feel the next step is a controller (You already have a good headphones right?)... Like DJConsole MK2 and maybe a new laptop or an external hard drive with enough space to have all your songs and videos maybe. If you have more money, then buy a mixer.

Good Luck!
