I know this is like beating a dead horse, but I'm a little bit confused with all the discussions here on the forums about laptop video cards. Some say the Nvidia 7900gs card is good, others say it sucks. I do know that for laptops ATI is better than Nvidia. So my questions is, I'm in the proccess of buying a laptop to do video mixing and I want to know from other DJ's that are using laptops for this same application which card is the best. Right now I seem to be going towards the Alienware Area51 m5750. This particular laptop has the ATI x1800 card in it. I think this will be fine but, is there anything out there right now that is better. Bellow are the specs for the laptop I'm thinking of buying.

Very good specs indeed
Mensajes Wed 01 Nov 06 @ 5:37 pm
how much does that cost?
Mensajes Wed 01 Nov 06 @ 5:54 pm
About $2,600

x1800 is a very good card and can decode videos internally, most of the problems come with video decoding lag if card is not ready for that. It should work superb.
Mensajes Wed 01 Nov 06 @ 6:37 pm
good lord 2,600 damn I could build an awesome system for that.
Mensajes Wed 01 Nov 06 @ 7:16 pm
Yeah, I know it's expensive. I'm going to have to rob a few banks.

For those of you mixing videos on a laptop on a regular basis, what laptop video card are you using?
And is it working without any glitches?

That depends if it's a "Turbo Cache card" some 7400's come with real dedicated video memory
***I stand corrected yours is a Turbo Cache card too bad

Cyder said that he could builld an awsome system for that kind of money well it is funny you are talking about this.I've just gotten a price for a rackmount pc for $4,500 & I've looked all over the internet for a less costing pc but for the specs I want that is more or less the cost. Oh by the way cyder you have said many times you can build an inexpensive machine that works with vdj I think just for the hell of it you should put the cost all together & post it.The system should be ready to just plug into the wall & install vdj.

Rackmount's are pretty well priced, I don't see how you come up with 4,500 thats way too much
Mensajes Thu 02 Nov 06 @ 3:53 am
Well let me start by saying that I'm looking to do this because I love using vdj but of course once in a while I get a crash & I'm guessing it is because it is a laptop. So the rackmount pc specs are Intel dou 2 core 2.3 (Don't hold me to that )4- 500gb harddrives,4 gb of memory 2-ati1950xtx W/crossfire & 512mb of memory. I will pick up the quote tommorow but as you can see I'm building a farrarribecause I don't want any problems.

Thats a bit of an overkill , lol i think you can launch warheads with those specs

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820146219 memory (x2)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16856101468R shuttle
and its up to you what you choose for the keyboard and mouse
this system will totally kick the shit out of any laptop
course i can make it cheaper by dropping the hard drives. Keep in mind most laptops won't give you 1tb of storage.

OK this looks ok. I appriciate the help be I'm willing to spend more & get bigger & faster, what do you think I should get?
but Don't I need windows xp?
Don't you feel the memory should be 2gb or better?
Should the power supply be bigger than what it is?
The videocard I feel should go to 512 just to keep it safe don't you think?
& put more harddrive space because 1tb for videos isn't that much?
