my take on this is a little different, I would try a firmware upgrade and reinstallation of hercs drivers and if this is not fixing it, just try a different console maybe your capacitors dried out and this is a symptom so you'll need a new console if your 2 years warranty expired, anyway doesn't sound like a VDJ problem

got my mk2 exchanged, I still have the same problem! I'm starting a new thread to figure this out.

hi , again what amp do you use
what do you use to ground your sound cables and power lines
i think this is the result of Emi (electro magnetic interfearance)/ current noise
you should look into getting an external power adaptor or a powered usb hub ,
and a grounded powerstrip to make sure that the minute static charges in your cables do not get amplified

I put all that info earlier in this thread. If you read my earleir messages I think you would realize that all that has been eliminated as a solution.
Here's the senario i'm trying to figure out. Just a laptop running of battery and the mk2 plugged in usb. It's not connected to the outside world at all. And I plug in my crappy headphones to the output and there's that noise. If I adapt and plug in my Audio Technica studio headphones, no noise.
Obviosly that's not how I'm trying to run. The problem is that I have the same results with my crappy home stereo and my pioneer dj mixer. Crappy home stereo = noise, Pioneer dj mixer = no noise.
I've been told by audio electronics engineers that it has to do with impedence.
I just want to know for sure that I'm not going to embarass myself trying to use the MK2 at a show.

YOU STILL DIDN'T EVEN READ WHAT'S GOING ON HERE!
I tried all that. Using a powered hub or a power supply with the MK2 actually added a new low end ground noise to the existing hissing noise.
I think there's a flaw with the MK2 in it's output impedence that will cause problems with cheaper sound systems.
What do you think about that?

possibly i will try and borrow some systems from work , i had this problem once but it stoped when i insulated my cables

So you want to say that:
with a new console (which you tried with about three different kind of laptops);
no power source connected to the laptop or the console (running on batteries);
the console is in line input mode not in phono mode (is recommended to use rca terminators on the inputs if not used);
using new quality rca cables (with braided shield) to connect to your amp (amp which if you connect other sources on the same input like cd player in pause mode doesn't hiss by itself);
with the latest firmware and latest drivers from Hercules installed;
your laptops sound card and wifi card disabled under windows device manager;
nothing else connected to the console or laptop (headphones on console are ok);
no other inductive appliances around like wifi , cellphones, wireless phones, vacuum cleaners etc.;
now when you play your vdj you get a loud hiss on all your mp3s (maybe you try and download a quality mp3 so you make sure that they were not missencoded without filter), so now if you still get a loud hiss maybe is the soft (btw have you tried a new fresh windows xp install) or maybe this is normal and you are a perfectionist with very sensitive hearing, anyway most of the digital players(cd , dat, dvd etc) have a residual sampling distortion and the console is not professional grade, but I just tested mine and is really quiet with the headphones plugged in to the output or by the mixer or at the amps max out(speakers) which pump out about 2000 real watts.

if this is a herc controller failure - have you tried contacting their support about getting it replaced?
Mensajes Mon 12 Feb 07 @ 4:06 am
I appricaite your list possible solutions. I know it's hard to beleive but I've eliminated everything on your list except RCA terminators. I'll definatly try that and get back, but I really don't think that's it.
Maybe I am taking this too serious, but I have used a few other usb soundcards and definatly didn't have this problem. I don't even have this problem with my crappy onboard soundcards on 2 different laptops.

at the end of the day to be honest the mk2 is a midrange card , its not state of the art,
it hasnt given me the problems you describe however but i have heard of them before i will do some more research

I am having the same problem. The hissing starts as soon as the Mk2 lights go out on the boot up of my laptop. I can plug speakers directly into the laptop and run VDJ internal mixer mode and do not get the hissing. As soon as I plug up the MK2 the hissing starts. My speakers are just a set of computer speakers with a sub woofer. No fancy amps here. I have tried all the settings that have to do with audio and nothing seems to help. Every thing I have is brand new. Help........
Thanks
Thanks

are your speakers powered ?
as in plugged into awall socket try a different socket to that of your pc .

Yes they are shielded computer speakers. I will try a different socket, but dont think that will matter. The hissing is only present when the mk2 is connected. When the mk2 is NOT connected I can turn the volume all the way up on my speakers and do not get the hissing. When the mk2 IS connected I hear the hissing from low volume all the way thru max. Virtual Dj is not even loaded when the hissing starts.
Like I said before, as soon as the lights on the mk2 go out after boot up the noise starts.
Thanks

I have the same problem. The hissing starts as soon as driver recognizes that MK2 is connected (lights go out). I've tried powered USB hub, connection to another socket and that wasn't helpful. Also there is a moment - thru the noise I can hear somekind of an electrical interference caused by processes occuring in the computer and by the work of ram and processor. For example, it can be heard during, mouse movement, minimizing/restoring windows, loading programs etc. That reminds me the same thing, i've met on my old audigy2 card - that noise appeared when line in/mic ports were enabled, and it disappeared right after disabling them. Any thoughts about that?

so far iv found that larger systems are not effected ,
but on some very cheap smaller amps have a slight buz noise which can be cancled out by turning the high eq down slightly this cuts off the buzz
i aslo found using a cheap small line mixer between your mk2 or external mixer and amp
cleans it up aslo
will tell you more when i find it.

NO SKY, as soon as the MK2 powers up you can hear the hiss, it has nothin to do with VDJ or using an external mixer. You can even hear the hiss through headphones with no other sound system hooked up. In my case it doesn't do it all the time, but it does do it. Like I said a few times before and was overlooked I think it has something to do with USB!! If you havent heard it yet then your testing means nothing and your system is working as it should. Also if you haven't heard it then what will your testing accomplish. I am sick of all these answers that you know nothing about. This is an issue that quite a few of us have had and if you don't know what is causing it please don't respond.
