I've been using my MK2 for a while now and all the sudden today it started making a loud hissing noise. It makes the noise all the time. It is as loud as the audio that plays thru. I already tried: unplugging the power to my laptop, switching out the audo cables, switching the usb cable, and of course every gain setting in windows and the MK2 control panel.
The audio output on my laptop is dead silent compared to the MK2.
I'm calling up hercules tomorrow but I was hoping someone else might have some insight on this.

Here's some other info that might help:
-Noise comes from outputs 1&2 and 3&4 (RCA and mini)
-Noise is not on the headphone output
-When I plug in the USB on the MK2 initially all the lights come on and there is no noise. Then the lights turn off except the Audio source lights and imediatly the noise starts.
-I tried it out on another laptop and I got the same results even before the drivers loaded.
-I also tried to disable the internal soundcard, same problem
-I really don't want any one else to tell me it's a ground loop problem. I promise it's not a ground loop problem and it doesn't even sound the same.
Hercules so far has not been very helpful. They asked me to take troubleshooting steps that should have been eliminated by what I told them. Half the problem is they can barely speak english. I don't understand them and they don't understand me.
I went ahead and emailed them the problem and I'm going to call again tomorrow. If you have any insite PLEASE HELP!!!

try pluging your mixer and amp into a different
plug than that of your laptop
aslo try a current noise killer you can pick them up in the uk at www.maplin.co.uk

you may aslo wish to use an external power adaptor

I have this noise problem even when the laptop isn't plugged into it's power supply.
What about this "current noise killer"? Is that a usb thing or just a power conditioner?

special power conditioner plug
or you can get a signal processor for the output which is of a higher quality but it is much more expensive.

I doubt it, my OC has 2 Gig of RAM, no I wasn't using any other proggys, I use End It All and there is nothing but VDJ running. This hissing comment has been coming up more and more in the forums. I have no clue what made it do it, but it didnt do it in 3.4. Actually I havent had it happen til 4.2. I don't know what caused it, but if it happens again I will let you know.

Hercules is going to exchange my MK2. I know I said it wasn't a grounding problem but now I think it is. The only thing is it's inside the hercules. If i hook up my hercules thru my pioneer dj mixer the the noise drops out and it sounds great. If I go straight into my powered speakers or any other sound system the noise is as loud as the music. It was not this way before this problem started. I used to be able to hook up and play through my home stereo but now I can't because of the noise. The MK2 must be broken.
This shouldn't have happened because I took very good care of my MK2. I hardly ever even moved it. I didn't move it between the last day that it worked and the day it didn't.
Hercules said they would do the exchange on tuesday and refered me to Kaysound distrobution out of Quebec. It's now Saturday and this guy Wayne still hasn't got back to me with the info so I can send it to him for an exchange. So far I've been down for a week.

have you tried these steps
1. plug your mixer and amps into a seprate plug socket than your laptop
2. grounded all of your cables
3. tried the mk2 with a power adaptor / powered usb hub http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/55495/Hardware_Technical_Support/To_All_Hercules_MK2_Users_-_Powered_HUB_tip_for_crackles_in_VDJ_4.html
4.tried a power conditioner if your a uk resident you can pick them up here www.maplin.co.uk
other considerations :
got the latest direct x?

A power conditioner shouldn't make a differance if I'm not pluged into a power source. I might try to use the optional power supply or usb hub... but I want it to work with out all that extra s***. The whole idea of the MK2 is all you should need is your laptop and it.... And the thing is, it used to work that way!

oh yeah, defintely got the newest Direct X.
And I've tried 3 different USB cables and and at least as many audio cables
