I really don’t understand chip sets stuff at all.. I copied Everything in my computer from another VDJ member.. Intel kept coming up as the best so I went on ebay and got the Intel 955XBK or $49.00.…
What are your thoughts on this one ..

Paul - Asus makes the Best "aftermarket" motherboards, Very reliable, very well made.

If you're only replacing the MoBO spend a little bit - at least $100.00 CDN (85.01 USD)

Remember this is the Frame that all your stuff plugs into - cheap out at your own peril

You never mentioned if you are looking for a micro ATX or regular ATX size format

And your power supply - is it a standard component P/S - or is it proprietary? If it's out of a Compac/HP or a Dell system - check your conectors, they might not be aftermarket standard - you might have to cut and solder.

I went through this when I wanted to upgrade my desktop pc. It was a Compac presario P3 750MHZ, The ATX powersupply was too weak for the new processor (200watts) and the cables for stuff like the front usb's and headphones were all slightly different some were very small compared to the new board some were 3 wire instead of 2 others were 4 instead of 3.

In the end I ended up haveing to buy a new tower - A home desktop tower is cheap as all hell, But small portable cases are not so cheap.

I had a buddy that I helped out tell me this stuff or I'd have been sunk.
He's a biker - I made his chopper run better - he installed the wrong carb - too much CFM ran like shit, changed the carb and adjusted the idle settings - and boom he was off. He's also a microsoft tech now, make more money than I do - Which might explain the tricked out Harley Police special he rides.

This is the bad boy I'd look at
has everything you need

high def audio - 8 channel even (if you don;t use timecode)
sata support
firewire
no video so your pci express card will be your whole world for that

146.55 USD - REasonable for a motherboard like this

has the advantage of being the lastest and greatest socket for duo cores - so if you decide to get a duo core is just a CPU swap as opposed to a board/porcessor swap

Are far as audeo,, are you saying that the onboard sound card is great or just ok???

I use my motherboards onboard audio - because I use a DAC2 so no need for timecodes

It's a 5.1 surround audio so three channels are easily used:
1/2 -left deck (channel 1 on my mixer) 3/4 - right deck (channel 3 on my mixer) 5/6 - samples and pre-listen (channel 2)

I would compare the quality to a mid-level soundblaster card, very good but not spectacular.

I've been using the sound on my new mobo for about 6 shifts at the club (aprox 40 hours) sounds nice even at 105db

All the boards I own are mirco-ATX, case size determines that.

Good Luck
