Tema: how to salvage a hard drive

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

this questions not so much about VDJ, but for the tech savvy users out there who might know a thing or two about data retrieval and might be a big help to me. i was in a car accident while using my laptop in my gilrfreinds caR (nO, I WASNT DRIVING :)). the monitor is the only thing that was physically damaged and the cpu will still turn on. i now have it hooked up to a seperate monitor which allows me to see whats going on. problem is, when i boot up I only get the opening toshiba screen and then nothing happens. if i press crt + alt + del it says:

IDE #0 Error

Intel UNDI, Pxe-2.1 (build 082)
copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Realtek RTL8139(x)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13 (021015)
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable
Pxe-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.
Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when ready....

0r i get...

IDE #0 Error

Check System. Then press F1 key

Then if i proceed to insert the reboot sick it tells me all data will be lost and to back up anything on the hd first. my question is can i and how do i salvage my hard drive? Please if anyone out there knows what the hell this stuff means and how to help please respond...thank you!!!!!!

you might want to take the HD out and put it into another computer, you also might want to look into buying an external case for the HD this will allow you to plug it into any computer via USB.

Good idea, that - if you HAVE managed to lose all your music files, get an external USB hard drive (I have the Seagate - 320 GB of memory.

Funny thing is, I bought the Seagate from Currys online site. It was due to be delivered on the Wednesday. On the Tuesday before, my old Acer decided it didn't want to play anymore, so I found myself with a computer that didn't work and a hard drive I couldn't use. I traded it in for a Medion. I had to re-rip all my music (took WEEKS!), reinstall Virtual DJ, re-analyse all my tracks ...

I connected my Seagate to my niece's computer. I was able to listen to the files on Windows Media Player. It also added unexpected album art to some of them.
