Hi people,
Demo user here.
I am interested in the new breed of controllers, notably the Total Control and the Vestax. What I am wondering is how are you supposed to change the master volume and the headphones volume on these controllers that do not have a soundcard?
The Maya 44 does not have gain control for any of the outputs either does it? Would you need a soundcard that does?
Lets say you did go with the Vestax and the Maya, could you assign these functions in VDJ to two of the knobs on the controller?

I'm not really an expert, but since nobody's answered yet...
You can control the master and headphone volume from on screen in virtual dj. So I would guess that it would be possible to assign a two knobs on the total control to adjust the volumes. But since I you don't really change them that often, I would be fine just to change them on the screen when necessary.
Also, the maya 44 usb has a volume control panel, so it can be changed fairly easily.
One thing about the maya though, the headphone output can only monitor the total output of the device, it can't be assigned to only one deck at a time.
If you were looking at total control, numark also do a product called dj-io, it's a soundcard specifically designed with a stereo line out on one channel and the second stereo channel can be used for either headphones or a second line out.
Ideal for the total control!

Let me see if I get this straight, the DJ i/o has 2 channels, but only 2 RCA outputs. But it does have a headphone out that can monitor either channel?
So you would plug the Sound card straight into one of the channels in the club mixer, and you could monitor your controller/vdj as normal? And adjust the volume on an assignable knob on the controller as well?
I'm surprised other people have not asked this question...I am changning the volume of my headphones constantly depending on the volume of the track/noise in the club. When it occured to me that I would not be able to plug my headphones into the mixer I was like S##T!!
So the maya is useless for a controller then!

I think the sound card has 4 rca sockets on the back (so two stero channels), but the second stero channel has a headphone jack socket so there are two setup options:
You use the four RCA sockets on the unit to plug into two different channels on the club's mixer.
Then you can use all the features of the club's mixer just like you had decks hooked up. (That's how the maya is usually set up).
Or alternatively, you can use the two rca sockets(the first stereo channel) to output to the sound sytem then plug your headphones in so you can listen to the second stereo channel (leaving the other two rca sockets unplugged).
In this case, there's buttons on the controller to select which deck gets sent through to the headphones.

Might as well get timecode if I'm considering that option...
Here in Aus the Vestax is gonna be about $800 + soundcard.
Virtual Vinyl is gonna be about $1k plus decks...
