About the Karaoke "Who's Next" feature, it's possible to use the text plugin, or text2d to do this already... BUT
one really neat enhancement for virtual DJ would be to allow another field in the browser where the DJ could easily enter "info" metadata for the track that is stored
for the duration of the session. This field could be handy for Karaoke Jockeys to enter the name of the singer, or for bar DJs to enter a song dedication, etc.
The, this could be linked to the text plugin, or something like it, and automatically display a message on the screen when that song comes up... something like that.

The autotext plugin could have options like:
"Display Info Field from: (o)Next Track ( )Current Track"
A user definable text field - "Prefix Info with:" "__Next Singer:__" (or "This song goes out to " or "Happy Birthday "

And of course, an ability to control the screen position, color, etc, like with the Text Plugin or text2d plugin.



About the ClipBank plugin
I really agree with Eric Sands. Not just for the clipbank, it'd be nice to be able to add a button into a skin to trigger the controls for any plugin. I use text all the time, and sometimes it's a bit annoying to have to go through several pages to find where I can enter it in.
It'd be nice to be able to assign each effect panel to a keyboard shortcut or skin button, etc.

Sometimes, for effects, like Eric said, there is some redundant clicking. Why would you have to select the clip and then activate it... could we have it "auto activate" as an option?


My own request:
Add the ability to enable "BeatLock" without the software actually trying to automatically line up the beats. I'd like a "TempoLock" function that just keeps the tempos matched when the DJ adjusts the tempo slider... but currently I'm not aware of a way to do this through the skin or keyboard shortcuts. I just think that the function doesn't exist.

and adding to bcondemi's request for more browser area, for a long time I've been asking for an enhancement to the skin engine that allows for vertically resizable browser areas. I have another post where I described exactly how I think this could be done and how one could make this work with a skin (i.e. use tiles for the areas that will expand, or stretch the image if it's flat color, as per the skin's definition etc.) The skinner would have to speicify that a zone is resizable... but this would be great given the fact that monitors come in so many shapes and sizes nowadays.
 
It would be great if all the midi controllers like BCD2000, BCD3000, Torq Xponent, hercules, and Numark midi controllers are fully supported!!!

I have a suggestion:
I would love to see the entire Clipbank function taken out of VIDEO EFFECTS, and incorporated as an entire new category next to BROWSER, SAMPLER, EFFECTS, and RECORD. When selected, it could take up the entire lower half of the screen, enabling you to have a much larger inventory of clips available, with numerous banks to select from. I think that CLIPBANKS is certainly at least as important as SAMPLER, EFFECTS, and RECORD, and deserves to have its own menu with an appropriate keyboard shortcut. Also, why not eliminate the ACTIVATE button for clips? Just make clips present on main output whenever selected. Besides, why would anybody want clips on the non-active ouput?

I think the immediate availability of clips is especially important for mobile DJ use where dance music is not necessarily continuous, and you need material to fill in. I think this would be an awesome, powerful addition, and I hope the development team can incorporate this. Thank you.


Use the function : video_fx( [fx_name] )
 
1) Disable the beatlock for the sampler. I like to use preset vocal samples which should not be pitched according to whatever vdj thinks the length and rate is... maybe it's already there but i cant get it to work

2) Second the motion on increasing the track librarie's size. I would think, modify the skin that the library portion is stretchable and leave the rest of the skinning the same. only diff would be that you now need an image which is repeatable instead of fixed size. Back to CSS design for websites ;-)

3) Use proper XPATH statements for the library. It seems that moving tracks from folder to folder resets the vdj specific things like cue-points, etc. Make the primary key the filesize_filename so if you move it, the file setttings are still there.

4) A wish for the future: Expand on the network sync feature. If two djs had the same library of music, they can spin together. much like online gaming, position is the only thing broadcasted and the clients recreate all the other details. no need for streaming the track to each other at all cuz the latency would kill the idea. but a timecode signal would work. two djs can play 2 on 2 together remotely as long as they share the same library. #3 above would also help because the primary key would always be found even if organising techniques are slightly different.
 
I would like to have the KEY of the current playing song displayed next to BPM and ELAPSED. Now I have to keep in my mind what key the last loaded song had, when I scroll the library. And I always forget that =o)

2) preview mp3 box, not always center on screen but the place on last time used......
 
The feature I would like to have is to allow multiple DJs to join a group and DJ together. There was a project by Microsoft that had a similar ability to what I am talking about. The project was called "Three Degrees" and allowed multiple users of MS's IM product to create a playlist. The feature I would like to see in VDJ would allow 2 or more DJs to link up online. The first version would allow only two playing decks. (As a professional programmer/developer I know we should start simple)

While one song is playing all members of Group can listen and cue up the next song. The first DJ to hit the magic button locks the next cue. That way two or more DJs don't try to mix in at the same time. Back in Summer 2001 a friend and I were doing a programming contract togther. Late one night since everyone was gone I started playing music without my headphone, over the speakers. My friend started using his computer to mix into my tune. We traded back and forth for about an hour, each taking our turn to fine and fit in the next tune. (We only used WinAmp and plugging in and out our headphones.) It was a blast and I keep thinking about writing this software... but I just ever have the time.

Any thoughts?
 
Some great suggestions:

My list:
1) Tempolock (since version 5, if you load a song with timecontrol cd just stopped playing, loads of times it gives you a message saying track still playing when it isnt, then when the track is loaded bpms are not sync)
2) More Key orientated functions, Key in the play windows to start with.
3) 3rd Deck, doesn't even have to be timecode control
4) Serato/torq/mixvibes/pinky plugins (hehe)
5) Master effect, compressor/limiter on the main... really good for when playing outside of clubs!!
6) Database management, maybe separate program, i would pay for it, where you can write into the files from your VDJ naming. I work with both Serato and VDJ and like VDJ more for the file naming, so would like to write the details in the mp3 so i can easily load them in Serato.

Thats it for now...


 
Did anybody already mentions:
- Start a track with syny (like the home edidation had it). with vdj 5 I have to press the start butto exactly to the beat of the current track. It would be great if there would be a function who put the beats together even I misses the right beat by inches ;-)
 
intercool, dont you mean 'sync'? its already there. just map it.

Yes Soupacon... Good idea.
Add a button into the top level of the skin to trigger the controls for ANY plugin. In my case, I would use it for Clipbank. But others could assign this skin button to their favorite effect that they use most often.

DJCel... could you explain what you mean here? I have looked throughout the shortcut list, and do not see this function listed.
 
Enable the SL1 to work with second card for 3 channel mixer so the preview and sampler is available via SL1 config in a separate channel
reverse over play, a kind of blip effect like sound in reverse but advance normal in the time line
reverse for loop samplers
better sampler loop bpm autosync
master eq
better visual feedback compact skin for controller use with multiple rez 600x800 1024x768 1280x800 1280x1050 1440x900 1280x720 1920x1080
with bigger browser area not huge buttons and vinyls
with good contrast collors
easy to read track title and remaining time also easy read clock
bright feedback for loop, sampler and effects activation on the same page including kills volumes and gains visual feedback
enable click and play on the deck's waveforms for fast search LIKE needle drop and right click for temporary play
BTW NUMARK'S DMC2 TOGGLE FOR WHEEL ASSIGMENT IS A BIG DESIGN MISTAKE, WE NEED DEDICATED BUTTONS FOR THAT WITH VISUAL FEEDBACK(BACKLIT BUTTONS WHEN ACTIVATED)
 
Not Sure if this has already been suggested but I would like there to be an option in the Automix to use Cue Point 1 as a starting point by default unless one has been specified
 
Option for 2 Deck Automix EXACTLY how it worked in 4.3 INCLUDING how SIDELIST worked in 4.3 Having to remove each played song yourself by checking "remove played" over and over is....well...nicely put...not as good.

Of course an option for 1 deck automix for those fans as well.

Return of the Local Database... Recurse almost begs for a system crash.

One more wish:

A more comfprtable search-function would be cool.
Now, you can only search in the file which is open under the decks.
I would like to search tracks in my whole database/file "own music".

Its already there in the current version. If you have selected a folder and fill in a search phrase, you first will see the results in the current folder than a line, under that line all the songs in your library that meet the search criteria. To make this work you will have to add the songs to the database. Select a folder or complete drive in the browser, right click and select "Add to search DB".
