Tópico: non-DJ gig for a DJ

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I was asked to provide 2 speakers and wireless mic for a lecture in hotel. This is a 5 hour event. How much should I charge for this? This is in California, USA.

Respectfully I disagree. I do things like this often, your providing more of a PA than DJing, but you can make some valuable contacts. What you charge is up to you, every market is a tad different in pricing these types of thing.

speaker rental/wireless mic rental

5 hours.....

I'd charge 200.00 plus a damage deposit.

for a flat rate: charge a quarter of the cost you paid, and if you think you can get away with it, a deposit of half of what you would have to pay to replace it if they break it (it is used after all). if they don't like that idea then draw up a contract that makes them pay for any necessary repairs and or replacement of equipment.
for hourly: negotiate... and get a contract for repairs etc.

I've done these and some I was MC for extra $$$$

It's a good way to network and get paid while you get your face out there and shake some hands ......harumph .....

I'm in agreement with Teary and Marcel ....Marcel's proposal is reasonable maybe low , but there perception is that you are just providing speakers

i go easy on 'em ... I don't look to hit a homer on every gig .......

Wild .... he's like the Henry Kissinger of DJ contracts and business .... he's got all the angles ....

as always , if you are satisfied with the fees , deposit , and assignment of liability , do it .....

take a little something to play when they surprise you and ask for music .....have some cocktail ( the promo only cocktail cd's are good )

and a smattering of all time party classics break out the platinum series or a good mp3 cd .....you can probably get by without the type o negative and the korn on this one ...lol

California ehhh ? uhhh harumph uhh tell 'em your system is "green" and charge lots more ...lol

Show up with a Solar Panel and cone-style megaphone....They complain just hook the leads from the solar panel to they're hair.

I'd also recommend only hiring out powered speakers because there is alot less chance of someone accidently blowing the speakers plus its less set up time for you. Some even come with built in wireless and players with CD & USB inputs so you could even put together your own mix of background music during a function.

If you want to do this more then once, then you have to make a good price.
Only then, they ask you a second time.
My advice is to call some people who normally rent these equipment.
For you it's important what the price is to rent this in your neighberhood, not what it cost in my country.
Then you know what a good price is.
Also keep in mind the quality, so you can't ask much for cheap speakers.

think thats the best and logical advice so far, should only charge what local forces dictate, maybes a few dollars less to get a foot in the door of that particular market. you can guarantee that's what this potential customer has done already.

Don't forget all the other advice on contract's etc that has been given.

interesting .... thanks never even looked at it like that

Thank you for your input, guys! I like the idea about background music. Anyways I checked prices at local rental stores and found some low-cost deals. But I think it doesnt matter because its all comes dowm to what people can afford. I told them its gonna be $200 per event and they need it for 3 days straight. Lets see what they will say.

I hope you specified that was 200 per event, AND per day. They may only have two events planned over a three day period. You will get 400 bucks and your gear will be there for three days..see what I'm saying?
