Tema: Auto-gain help + sound quality issues (noob)

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Perhaps i'm doing something wrong but I've noticed my gain in VDJ is contributing to a lot of clipping and distortion on most songs. i looked in Config for an option and located the 'Auto-gain' option and chose 'Disabled', however it still resets each individual song's gain upon load. does anyone know what this could be? Am i missing an option?

Also, maybe this is a stupid question, but i've noticed VDJ's sound quality is a little bit, well, 'inferior' to that of Winamp and other media players. While VDJ is of course much, much more than a media player I still can't seem to figure out why songs seem to sound better (crisp, clear, balanced) when played on a standard media player like Winamp or even WMP. i realize this sounds stupid but is an issue nonetheless. as for my setup, im using Numark Total Control Pro on a desktop PC outputting to an Onkyo receiver with Infinity speakers hooked up.

I don't notice the sound to be inferior with my set up and I've got a pretty high quality Pioneer one so I think I would hear any nuances in the sound or if the quality was low. I also run a Rane Serato SL3 and don't notice any vast quality differences between Serato Scratch Live and Virtual DJ. I am a certified audio specialist in both home theater and car audio for nearly 25 years so believe me I can spot sound issues instantly (and yes, my hearing is still excellent, so far!)

What type of controller are you using and give us the specs of your computer. Then we can possibly help you better.

I have the same problem. With the sound on VDJ. I wish there was a way were it would stop going back to the normal settings after you load a song. If you do find something out let me know man...The other thing you can consider is getting another mixer and or a crossover to divide your bass highs and mids. That is what i plan on doing I have two peavey 15 with a peavey 1500watt amp and it has a bassy sound but i will correct that problem before the week is up.

I think I'm finding that Virtual DJ forgets my gain settings for songs after I make them which is annoying, because I have some songs with out a hard beat in them I like to use as intros or for fun in a mix and auto gain thinks the levels have to balance my really hard loud tracks...so if I forget to pull the levels down the not so loud track pumped up by gain sounds uncomfortably loud.

As for quality in a more general sense, I started noticing what sounds like glitches in the audio of songs from within VDJ but not in an external media player. I'm running on a Mac Book Pro from with 4 GB ram and dual core intel chip on Mac OSX with the normal internal soundcard (no external devices as the moment), and I've checked the CPU usage while running Virtual DJ and only time it ever gets above like 15% is when I load a song. I've tried messing with the quality settings but it still just dosn't sound completely right to me. I'm not sure I'm imagining these slight hickups and noise or not...I'm going to have to get someone else to listen to this and tell me I'm not crazy.

Regardless of controller, if you're getting jumps in track volume between tracks, you may want to look at normalising your tracks outside of VDJ. MP3GAIN works for me. If all your tracks' volume are set to a specifc reference point outside of VDJ, then you won't need to adjust your tracks in VDJ or your midi mixer between tracks. Just set Auto Gain to Disabled and control your master volume in your external mixer and you should be all set...

If you've got sound quality problems, VDJ probably isn't your problem. Look first to your audio source (like good quality mp3's) and once you've ruled that out, look to your controller and possibly the performance settings of your pc.
