Tema: Fuzzy/Distorted sound out of one channel

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

hey,
please can someone help me. I have tried everything to rectify this problem. I am using VDJ on a laptop, windows vista connected to an external mixer. behringer djx700. Im using an external sound card aswell, think there is also one in the computer. Everything is working fine except that the channel plugged into the sound card is distorted, really frustrating. I tried some tips from this forum but still cant fix it? Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

Sounds like you might have a ground loop hum. If you are running a laptop, truy unplugging the power supply and see if it goes away. If it does, you have two options.

1. Try plugging all the devices with a grounded (3 prong) plug into the same strip.

2. If that is not possible, goto your local hardware store and get a 3 prong to 2 prong plug (that removes the ground pin) for any amps, speakers, etc that can't be plugged into you PC's power strip.

If none of this helps, make sure that the cord that plugs your PC into the mixer. I have personally seen (and had go wrong with my setup) that the pluglooks like it is all the way in, but it is not. Just give all connections a good push in or tighten up.

do you have a switch on the side of your sound card that is selectable digital/digital-analog, try re setting this and/or replace usb cable.

It may well be the USB cable, switch them around to see if the problem replicates itself on the other channel, if it does, the the cable is likely the issue.

The cable suggestions are good. But are you running a laptop? If so did you unplug it and if so what were the results? Just curious, uplugging a laptop is allot more clear cut than eliminating a ground problem.

Cables are where I would look next if you did though. Also can you try that speaker on the card without the problem?

there is no switch on the side of the sound card. I dont think it is the cables because ive set up this mixer before with the same cables and everything worked fine. I did try the laptop thing, I unplugged the charger cable from the laptop and turned it off at the switch. I have also tried this setup with other speakers and had the same problem so dont think its the speakers. I was wondering could it be my version of VDJ? I have version 5, maybe i need a newer version.
Just in case this might help give you any clues, here is my setup: I am using a toshiba laptop with windows vista. running VDJ, config:
Inputs:none
Outputs: External Mixer
Soundcard: 2 Cards
Soundcard: Speaker (Realtek Hi def)
Second Card: USB
Output Channel: First/Right
The mixer is linked to a stereo system, then one channel is plugged into my laptop headphone jack and the other channel plugged into a USB soundcard (this is the fuzzy channel). Everything seems to work fine besides the fuzzy/distorted sound on the one channel.
Hope that is of use. and by the way, thanks so much for your help man I really appreciate it.
cheers

I am confused by this statment, was the laptop on/running, all cables, sound cards and speakers on and working while the laptop was unplugged form the wall? If so, did the noise/distortion still happen?

I am fairly certain that it is not the version of VDJ that is the problem, unless it is a hacked version. If you are sure that the cables and speakers are fine, try another USB sound card and/or update it's drivers.
